Default snowy battle map in a non snowy campaign map area

i want to know if this is a common occurance and if it can be fixed with out restarting a campaign. heres the situatuion. im in italy right and when its summer(no snow) in northern europe i have no problem with campaign map/ battle map errors- everything is green. but when its winter in northern europe (snow is visible) things get frustrating. for example in southern italy and the area around syracuse, where it never snows, always shows green areas. when its winter even though there is no snow in the campaign map the battle map is snowy. this just ruins my game play experience but not to a large level. so i was just wondering if any thing could be done to fix this. i would really appreciate the help.

I've had this happen also, and have posted about it in the bugs thread but to no avail.

It's a mismatch of the descr_climates.txt file with the map_climates.tga in the map folder. The environment in RS1.6 was, afterall, largely put together by me, and not the work of genius you can expect from Tone's work.

I could take time away from working on RS2 to fix it, if you'd like.....???

No need, I think we can leave this little bug unnoticed during playing rs 1.6 RS2 is more important.

I too have noticed this while playing as the Syracusians, and have taken the liberty to see if I could fix it. So far what I have done managed to fix the problem and below I will post the steps that I took, for the files you need you should already have and placing them on this forum would be unnecessary.

*WARNING*: Back up any files you will be tampering with for this has only been slightly tested and so far there are no bugs but that’s not to say there wont be down the road

1.) First and foremost I will be walking you through the steps for use in a XP ran machine, however I am confident enough that vista users will be able to translate these steps for they are very simple. Open the folder that contains your main installment of roma surrectum (from now on labeled rs).

2.) Select the search button from the top of your screen, and the little dog or whatever you have it set on should appear with a series of search options.

3.) Select all files and folders from the search options and a series of boxes should appear that you can type in.

4.) In the “all or part of the file name” box type climate NOTE: make sure in the “look in” box is the folder that you main copy of rs is installed, if it is not change it to the folder that your main copy of rs is in and repeate this step

5.) When the search is complete you should see a series of .txt files and .tga files you should also notice that in the series of map_climates.tga the first one is roughly 2200 k and one of the largest. This tells me that more time and effort was put into this file, and upon examination of the file compared to the rest it would seem true. So now right click the first map_climates.tga that is roughly 2200 k and select copy from the drop boxes.

6.) Back out of the search area until you reach the main area that your copy of rs is located.

7.) If you use the BI installation copy of rs then do the following: select the folders bi, then data, then world, then maps, then base (X:\...\Activision\(rs install)\bi\data\world\maps\base) there you should see a .tga file named map_climate.tga. Somewhere in the blank area around that folder right click then select paste, it should ask you if you want to replace the file, just select yes, and presto your games climate problem should be fixed

If you use the Alexander copy of the rs install then follow the exact steps above only paste the information the folder following Alexander (X:\...\Activision\(rs install)\alexander\data\world\maps\base)

Step 7 is incorrect, both the BI and Alex shortcuts use the RTW rs install and not the BI/Alex ones respectively. You can verifty this be removing (or renaming) the BI/Alexander folder(s) in your RTW install and running RS with the appropriate shortcut, the game will run without problems. So you only need to change the files in the RTW vanilla locations.

EDIT: Also you haven't actually posted any files to replace or how to fix the existing ones.

hmm thats interesting because what i did managed to fix the problem... at least for now
also you get 3 launch icons when its ready to play one for vanilla one for bi and one for alex, and i did mention that placing the files on this forum wouldnt be necessary

though im sure you would know better than i would

Also, the existing map_climates.tga in RS1.6 was customized for this mod. If you replace it with another, you'll screw up where various climates were intended to be.

oh yes dvk901 i am aware thats why i specifically said to use the ones in your folder with rs installed and to back up every file

i instal all of my mods on a clean instal of total war so im about 99.9% sure that the map i used was the right one

Does this method work? From the posts here it seems as though it doesn't quite work...?

The copying of files into the BI/Alex folders? No it doesn't work as I said the location where those files are being copied is never referred to by RS.
