Steam download speed- slow?

Hi all, quick question. Usually, my connection is about 1.5 mbps. Whenever I'm downloading something in Steam, like I am now, however, it isn't as fast as it should be. What gives? My peak download is about 70 kbps, and currently the download is at 55 kbps. It is the only download going, or even internet-using program open. Any help?

Go into settings and change your download speed to the maximum setting should be cable 10mb or something like that after that close steam go into offline mode then go back into online mode try downloading a file if this does not work try downloading a new client thiers been reports of bad client downloads.

If nothing persists try tuning your router or connection troubleshoot it maybe your connection has a few problems ? steam is working fine for me right now i hope you get it sorted.

Ahhh yes !!!! steam servers may be overloaded if so go into settings and change your Country to something else it may make your downloads faster (O_o).

usually slow download rates only occur if your downloading a game thats being heavily downloaded by alot of people at once

When I posted, I was downloading dirt 2 demo, and I left it running overnight. Peak was still 60 kbps. Also, I can't find any download cap under settings, GAS MASK. My server was set to Dallas as that is the closest to here (NW AR)

Any other suggestions? Is this happening to anyone else?

Yes go to FILE----> settings, Downloads.


Once you reach downloads turn your Approximate speed of your INTERNET connection to, CABLE 10M FIBRE.

Under this will be your location change it to something else and sometimes it does not matter other unloaded servers will perform alot better in many cases ive gone from UK TO USA and my downloads have been quicker as i went on US servers when they are in bed it is mostly empty same applies for the uk .

Still a maximum of around 65-70kbps. I don't get it. I set it to 10mb fiber, and nothing happened. Its the same for xfire downloads, too, as well as other programs besides Chrome.

contact your ISP and ask them about it

My isp doesn't know jack, I'm pretty sure they're just like a rebranded company (they are labelled as sbc internet services, when they aren't). So I suppose I'll just live it with.
