Default Upgrading to win 7 64 bit

N:TW keeps crashing when I go into a campaign battle and I read it might because of my RAM is to low. And from what I understood upgrading to 64 bit will fix this problem. I think........

1)But how much will I lose if upgrade?
2)My max RAM is 4 gigs so is it even worth it?
3)And does anyone know if reinstalling steam, will count as another computer instillation?

And yes my computer is 64 bit capable.

    Thanks for any help.

If your max ram is 4GB you don't even need to go to 64bit really. 32bit can take up to 3GB of ram. How much ram do you have and what is your other specs?

    (1) what do you mean by lose? programs etc?

    (2) I’d say the average addressable RAM on a 32bit OS is 3.5GB, that’s inc. the video memory I believe.

So if he has 4GB + say a 1GB graphics card he will increase his addressable RAM by 1.5GB by simply upgrading to 64bit, if he has lots of background programs using his RAM that could make quite an noticeable improvement.

    (3) No just install steam and log in, you can use steam on any computer. Its tied to your account eg, user name password and not your computer.

(ps: I dont know if its a 32bit related problem... it could be somthing else)

Link the article that's telling you that you need to upgrade in order to play the game.

And tell us how much ram you currently have.

I'd guess this puts us in a better position to judge.

Im having the same problem as him.

My specs are pretty much the same as his, except I have a Geforce Gt 220.

Any it says I have 4g of ram but only 3 useable

Edit: And I play with xfire running if that might be the problem.

It's much more likely that you're suffering an overheating issue because your VGA can't handle the heat , the GT 220 is not a gaming card, it's a low budget, low profile, HTPC card. Good for playing movies, surfing the net and basic tasks but not gaming.

Snuggan's 8800 GTS, although old, is still a video card primarily designed for gaming and has the cooling system and the raw power to cope, yours on the other hand, cannot.

This is a Geforce 8800 GTS:

Buy a new video card if you plan to play NTW, your computer will thank you for it.

As for upgrading to Win7, you could and your accessible RAM will increase, but really, I'm 100% sure that your problem is graphics card related, so there's no point.

I still use Windows XP, and I don't have any problems like that at all in ETW, even if I can only use ~3GB of my RAM.

Well that sucks.....I just got this card a few months ago cause one of the geek squad guys told me it would handle my games no problem. It plays ETW Mass effect and Dragon age just fine though.....

I think Mr Crusty was joking to suggest your graphics card is overheating... Or at least I think he should have been...

Nothing suggests your problem is due to graphics card or memory. For a start you have at least 50% more mem than the guy in the thread you link.

I suggest that you make sure you have no software running in the background, and update the game and your drivers.

If that doesn't fix it then reinstall windows, get your drivers set up, install the game and test.

BTW your post is effectively a request for tech support for that game. If you ask questions like that around here then people are likely to start recommending the hardware that excites them.

Could cost you a packet if you listen

    It was half n half.

I jumped the gun though, there are plenty of things to consider when you get a CTD.

OP, what settings and res do you play on, and what temperatures is your graphics card recording when you crash? If any of these are high, then maybe I'm right.

This may help though, if you're still stuck on the memory issue.

It might also be a problem with NTW, use steam to check the game folder's integrity to see if any files are corrupt or something. You could also try reinstalling the game for good measure. And/or drivers as Taiji suggested.

I wouldn't recomend reinstalling Windows until you've explored all other options though. If there really is nothing else that could be causing problems, then it may just fix everything.

In any case, there isn't a need for you to get Windows 7, it may help, but it's certainly not a necessity, so don't bother.

I already have Windows 7 just 32 bit. I tried a campaign battle using game booster, which shuts down any programs running in the background, and I made it through a whole battle.

Ill check my drivers. Don't know why I didn't think of that earlier.....

But while were on the issues is worth upgrading to 64 bit anyways? Will it makes gaming easier?

    And +rep for the help.
