    Default Aiming Cannon Shots

Anyone have any tips for aiming shrapnel shots? They work pretty well when I just target the enemy directly but it seems much of the shrapnel goes over their heads. Is there a better way? Maybe to time it by aiming in front of the enemy?
    Thanks

Timing it by aiming in front would probably be your best bet, but I never have much luck with it so I don't often use it.

Plus there's something to be said for watching a cannoball rip through the enemy lines.

It's far more effective at medium range than normal cannon balls. Even if it misses a lot or over shoots in short, one hit from a shrapnel shot will do many times the damage as a single cannon ball. If you have regiments stacked back to back like sometimes the AI does order the guns to aim for the lead regiments and even it over shoots it will hit the regiments in the back, wasting time aiming at the ground is of course wasting time even if it makes it more effective you constently have to baby sit your guns.

Aim it in front of blocks of densely positioned men. They will start flying!

I always aim just behind enemy formations with cannister. Seems to hit them with a large portion of the grape pattern. Always try to hit an overlap point of two or more regiments if the enemy bends their line, too.
