    Default Best setup for RS2 - ??

    Hi Guys

A question to the dev's.... Whats the base spec in terms of hardware for running RS2 and still be able to use large unit sizes and good playability ?

Looking at the trailer video's got me thinking whether a new gfx card or more ram is gonan be needed to play it, esp in all of its glory !

can you play RS 1.6 smoothly? if you can than yes, you can play RS2 smoothly, its a little more demanding than rs 1.6 but only slightly.

The best way to run any RTW mods is to have a great processor with a high GHz (RTW can't use more than one core so the GHz is what's makes the difference), and a modern medium/high Graphiccard.

Your PC should do fine if you can run RS 1.6a.

I turned all settings down to the lowest except unit graphics, and I'm getting an fps of 11-12, while with RS1.6 on high settings I had 7-8 fps.

Fuzz, have you disabled AA in game? Make sure you disable that and override the game settings with your graphics card control panel. Actually there are very few things that will make much of a difference to frame rate.....there are no level of detail models so it really doesn't make any difference if you play on high, medium or low units (other than with high unit settings you get better missile models), for terrain the only difference is that at high you get some overlaying of a "blending" texture which smooths things somewhat.

So, disable AA in game --and 'override the game settings with your graphics card control panel' --disable AA in the control panel as well? I got horrible FPS as well and after reading this im pretty sure it's the low ghz per core of my q6600, ill try and OC it a little. My gtx280 on the other hand wont even spin up, the fan just keeps rolling at 330rpm giving me the indication it's not really bothered by the game.

A good processor like apple said.. if you want the best I suggest at least 3.0 Ghz and above, a lot of RAM memory 2~4 GB and a good videocard.. I believe this way you will be able to play on high settings smoothly

No, disable AA only in game. Your need to do this in control panel if you have Nvidia

Thanks! So i disable it in game but enable it in the control panel, gonna give it a shot

I've just OC'ed the CPU to 2.7ghz and this kinda fixed it for me. Loaded a quick save and played a battle in the snow with full settings (including AA) and it almost ran smooth. No stuttering when moving the camera around and my troops responded instantly. Though after 2min of play the cpu temp jumped up to close to 50 degrees --gonna have to replace that 2k rpm stock cooler if i wanna continue this i think --but damn! i can get used to this

Last question; does disabling the AA in game and enabling it in the control panel also relief the CPU? or only the GPU, because the latter is using the lowest core speed setting in RTW, 300ghz or something and ive never heard the fan spin up while playing.

Edit; Just tested it with AA enabled in the control panel and disabled it game --i'm not sure i saw a FPS increase but the units looked even better!

    Hi Guys

I'm running RS1.6a on a Core i7 - 920 and an ATi 57XX (512MB) series card and its running fairly smoothly but I thought I'd check and find out if an update might be needed.

    Cheers
