Screen resolution chanches or not???

Something weird is to me. When I change my screen resolution on 1280x1024 and re enter game, in options screen resolution is fine but actually it is still 1024x768. I cursor is still big and unit cards in custom battle is crappy, and when I play campaign I have feeling that screen is too small. Tried ne command but with lower resolutions than 1280x1024 game goes in windowed mode. In m2tw I don't have that problem. Maybe engine is too old for new PC?

No, it's something you've done or not done. I can play RSII beta at 2560x1600 on a 30" monitor using a pair of GTX295s with Windows 7 64 bit (Home Premium).

What shows in your 'preferences.txt' file for the game you are playing?

You've provided no technical information apart from the resolutions you are trying to use. So, any advice given can only be a guess.

What is the native resolution of the monitor you are using?

You can set your resolution in preferences.txt and then make it read-only.

Some new graphics cards and widescreen monitors may have issues wth it.

My native resolution is 1280x1024. I am reinstalling RTW and will check again. Don't get what it should be.

I kinda solved it. On 1152x864 game runs as it should be. No more crapy unit cards. I think its better than nothing

Your strategy_max_resolution and battle_max_resolution should be no more than native unless your monitor can do it that high.

Set them at 1280x1024 and see if it holds. 32bit is right as this game is 32bit.

didn't work . Also when I change resolution and press button near resolutions monitor says out of range.

I was told a long time ago that both the strategy and battle map resolution should be the same value. I've usually followed that and have never had any problem - no matter what system I've used and with a variety of operating systems and PCs (desktops and laptops).

I have LG 19 inch monitor model "FLATRON L1953S"

http://en.kioskea.net/guide/opinions...-l1953s-silver is yours and max resolution is 1280 x 1024. I am thinking the game won't let you play there thinking it needs the room for loading graphics. I am thinking 1024x768 is all Rome will give you depnding partly on your graphics card.

Have you tried updating your monitor drivers?

Strange... other games work well on 1280x1024 even they require more system spec. I think 1024x768 is maximum what rome can for me, my drivers are updated too.

I found some info about it. I think it is engine fault. I found here that not only I have problem of 1280x1024 resolution..
Not much has changed, with the exception of the new units of course, in terms of how the game looks which is to be expected with an expansion pack. One of the complaints I have with Rome Total War is that if you play the game at a screen resolution of 1280x1024, the user interface on the campaign map looks pretty ugly. When using the default 1024x768 all the icons and buttons look great, this is fine if you have a 17" or lower CRT monitor. Those of us who are playing on a 17" TFT monitor have a choice of playing at the native screen resolution and suffering the ugly user interface or running the game at 1024x768 and having everything else look blurry. Disappointingly this problem still exists with Barbarian Invasion.

Look for the descr_auto_optimize_options.txt in the data folder and see if you can tweak it. Some with widescreens have had success.
