So who here plans to join what military?
I plan to join the US Army as an officer.

Under normal circumstances, no, i dont plan on joining . however, ive always thought that if we ever found ourselves in another large scale conflict, and my nation needed me, i would answer. I wouldnt feel right at all just sitting around when my country truly needs me. I feel it is my duty, that I owe at least this much to my country
A question. Would you be saying this if, say, a whack-job daffy-duck loving dictator of a certain asian, finally built, and launched nuclear missiles at the western coast of the continental United States, killing millions of your fellow citizens who may or may not hold ideals similar to your own?Originally Posted by Atheist Peace
I would.

No, I didn't mean Iraq, I meant without anything like what exc said. But I really would never join an army, it's not in my nature. If I was going to fight back against an invasion or something, I would rather join some kind of militia or something than join any army.Originally Posted by Justinian

Speaking of Army, I need to finish up my ROTC Scholarship application soon.

Thinking of after I get my computer science degree to join the Navy or Air Force. The benifits of joining are too great to pass up.

With a computer science degree you could probably get a pretty good job in the AF, Kanaric.
Hm... I was under the misconception that USMA was for USMC and the Army, is that incorrect? Just Army? Rather sad, the USMC are much cooler. But the Citadel is in SC.![]()
What is with the USMC dress uniform? Sky blue with buttons? That's like ... Civil War-era uniforms.![]()
The Point is Army, Annapolis is Navy & the Corps, and the Air Force has their own academy in Colorado, those are the official military colleges, and graduates are required to serve out a minimum term of enlistment as a commissioned officer. Then there are the institutions like the Citadel and VMI that cater to all services, and do not have a post graduation military service requirement, only ROTC, although if you do choose to join, a commission is pretty much assured.Originally Posted by Justinian

Well, like I said, if the situation involved the deaths of millions of your countrymen and said incursions threatened to simply smear out our way of life, would you do it or not? A militia would get you killed, unless you refer to the national guard. Big fancy way to say trained militia, in all honesty.
And yeah, I don't mean current circumstances. I'm refering to a hypothetical situation outlined above.

Why should whether the people dying are 'my countrymen' or not affect me?
