    Default Lifespan of Elf Family Members

    I understand that the Immortal Lives of the Elves are constrained by the parameters of the Total War Engine, But I was wondering (and bear with me) if it was possible for the Elven Family Members present at the start of the game to start out at about 16-20 years old. The reason for this is, seeing as they are immortal, wouldn't it be more feasable that they start out at the youngest possible, or pretty young age, to represent their longevity? I understand that many of the begging family members are thousands of years old, but I don't see a reason why they should "SAIL AWAY" around turn 50. Characters such as Glorifindel (my personal favorite) and Elrond are just to B.A. to die of in such a short amount of time (considering they have already lived sooooooo long and are immortal, c'mon). Plus, these early family members are those with customized appearances and the nicest aesthetic appeal. I'd at least want to march with Glorifindel and Elrond once I have my armies of Golden Noldorin Warriors against Mount Doom... where I shall CAST THE RING INTO THE FLAMES AND END SAURON'S REIGN!

    Honestly, its just ridiculous that they start out at such progressed ages when they are obviously immortal beings.

    If they have children that are say; 16 years old they have to be at least 32 or so, this is the main reason many elves are old.

    If you would make Elrond 16 you couldn't have Elladan and Elrohir as his sons.
    But changing Glorfindels age is quite easy. Go to Medieval2/mods/Third_age/data/world/maps/campaign/imperial campaign and open descr_strat.
    Search for Glorfindel. It look like this:
    Code:
    character Glorfindel, named character, male, age 46, x 31, y 248, portrait Glorfindel, battle_model glorfindel ;forlindon
    traits Glorfindel 1 , LoyaltyStarter 1 , GoodCommander 2 , ReligionStarter 1 , GoodAttacker 1 , Brave 1 , Just 1 , BattleChivalry 1
    ancillaries troops_helf
    Now you can change his age to 16. You'd have to start a new campaign though to get the effect though.

    Awesome, can't wait to change Glorifindel. Now another question... If I made Elrohir and Elladan 16 and say 20, couldn't I make Elrond say... 30? or something like that

    ... Plus, Im gonna make Glorifindel shitt stars, gonna make those command points go out the roof

    As El Cid mentioned, Elrond has to be at least 16 years older than the eldest son. So in your example 36.

    Got it good sir, and why not make the Elven age for "Coming of Age" be younger, a further represenation of how Elves live long

    I guess it's the same for all factions.

    That can be changed. If you set coming of age to 1, and the max father/child time to 1 then you could have a 1 year old Elrond give birth to a Elladan and Elrohir.#

    Myoria, you have a skewed view on how to have the different ages.

    You have a global system of aging. It cannot go higher than the absolute maximum (120? I think), as it's currently set. There's no script, trigger or code which can extend life - only end it. If you set the Maximum Age to 99999, then characters will never die - unless it's through a battle or script.

    Aikanar and others have helped me over a disccusion for a potential work around, although it's a little ugly. I have let KK know about it, but it's quite buggy with some features - it also precludes the use of Family Trees and adoptions, so there's some limit. And of course the extended turn duration that adding more monitors and functions comes with.

    Maybe we are not understanding each other....or maybe I'm just skewed

    I don't want to extend global ages, more write a respawn script for Immortals (ie Elves + gandalf + Saruman) so that IF they die of old age they reappear thus not really dying.

    Basicaly just like the submod for the Nazgűl but ONLY when they die of old age.

    I'm pretty sure it is the same for all factions, and I don't even know if it can be changed.

    They die, you can only have one age limit for all characters.

    @Aikanár if the maximum number of children can be changed this is good for the First Age submod as they had trouble with the sons Fëanor not all being able to be sons right?

    Max number of children hardcoded limit = 4

    Edit:

    Not off-hand but since the game only has 380 turns in 95 years and the max age is set on 135... well

    I heard that you could make family members live for hundreds of years, and just script the deaths of men and dwarves

    Ahh, I started wondering when it gave me the message saying "The King of the Silvan Elves is dead" or whatever, but then when I looked at where I left him he's still there alive and kickin'.

    What you're looking for can be found and edited in the Third_age\data\descr_campaign_db.xml
    You like to have a look at the family tree section:
    Code:
     <family_tree>
          <max_age uint="120"/>
          <max_age_for_marriage_for_male uint="75"/>
          <max_age_for_marriage_for_female uint="50"/>
          <max_age_before_death uint="135"/>
          <max_age_of_child uint="10"/>
          <old_age uint="90"/>
          <age_of_manhood uint="16"/>
          <daughters_age_of_consent uint="16"/>
          <daughters_retirement_age uint="40"/>
          <age_difference_min int="-10"/>
          <age_difference_max int="30"/>
          <parent_to_child_min_age_diff uint="12"/>
          <min_adoption_age uint="20"/>
          <max_adoption_age uint="30"/>
          <max_age_for_conception uint="50"/>
          <age_of_manhood_close uint="14"/>
          <max_number_of_children uint="4"/>
       </family_tree>
    Just fiddle around with it an try how you can adjust it to meet what you're intending to do.
    If you run into a hardcoded limit, you will experience a CTD or a CTM. Then undo your change and test another value. And, of course, do a backup of your file first.

    Edit: and of course el Cid is right, changes will apply for each and every faction in the game.
