What to do with armed citizens?

When you take a region capital, is the "Resistance to foreign occupation" variable affected by the number of surviving armed citizens? In other words, should I send the cavalry to attack routing citizens or just let them run?

You should always kill routing enemies, so you wont have to fight them again later, and it is good for the experience of your troops (number of kills)

Yes, but armed citizens are different because they simply disappear after you've taken the city. Didn't know about the experience benefit though, so that's a good reason for mowing them down.

On topic: Kill them. Especially if there are any reminding siege turns left after the battle. Simply because it makes nasty surprices less likely.

I don't think killing them on the battelfield in the siege helps ... what does lower resistance to foreign occupation is killing the rebels that pop up later, that has dramatic results.
