    Does anyone know the limit of vertices? Or got any hints how to reduce them.

    are more vertices on attachments ok, i was told it is mainly on the body itself where we get problems?

    i am also confused as to the numbers, does it matter how many are on a model/unit or is the combination of units that matters.

    thanks

    limits i dont think there are but to keep your game running good it is best to have up to 800-900(you can do great models if you use that number wisely) vertexes per model,afcource always according to your pc.
    my pc cant handle a battle with 20 vs 20 units of 500-600 vertexes cause it is almost 6 years old.
    i'm not sure about the combination or not if matters but since we're working on rome total war we dont care enough since we have one model for the unit
    in the other hand when you increase (me)the unit size in the game you have loss of performance.
    to reduce them i convert them to poly and weld them ,i hadn't got the chance to reduce many things so not much exp on this,i think you can ask MarcelP for redusing them,he reduced a very big model in another thread in here.

    Thanks very much jarlaxe, yea I got some very useful info from zhuge liang too and I think we just had way to many attatchements….

    This should be helpful to any budding modellers out there…

    He said;

    I reckon that the problem is with the means of rigging, your unit is split up into about 10+ models each with its own skin attribute.
    As a rule of thumb I tend only to use a maximum of 5-6 separate objects depending on the presence of secondary weapons. Once you go over that number odd things start to happen in RTW because of the way it handles the meshes in the game.
    when you implement more than 2 objects with separate skin attributes the cas extractor has a tendency to 'flip' the normals (ie - turns it inside out, which can render it invisible, or partly invisible). These are quite obvious in max once you reload the model back in because they'll seem to be darker grey and have artefacts. Just select all of the polygons on the affected limb and flip them back, the second export ought to work.

    Welding verticals is always risky. The UV map doesn't like welding and will screw up your texture in game.

    1000 verticals to a unit should run fine even with 512x512 textures, bearing in mind a horse is 2000 verticals.
