Homosexuality and pedophillia = mental disorders?

Has science shed any light on why these sexual deviations occur? Is it something to do with the development of the child in the body, mental trauma suffered in childhood or does everyone have a bit of both in them which can eventually rise to dominate their sexual periphery?

Well it is classified as a disorder though I do wonder why, what specifically makes it different then any other deviations from the "norm" that it gets tag as such. While op is clearly trolling it would make for imo an interesting if heated discussion.

The label, pedophelia, has become a part of the legal and psychiatric nomenclature. Thus, pedophilia has become, by definition, a mental condition. Personally, I do not think so. I believe that the natural order of life is that adults protect, rather than harm, children. The "mere" sexual feelings, which, in and of themselves, may be normal, are controlled by normal individuals. Individuals who act on these feelings are not "normal". I am not prepared to answer the question, "are these people criminal or are they insane?", but it is obvious that if they are judged to be criminal by society, they are subject to criminal punishment, and if they are insane, they should be given psychiatric treatment. Sadly, I doubt there is any effective psychiatric treatment available. Criminal punishment available today is limitted to incarceration, which is unlikely to stop the behaviour. Lots of luck to anyone who thinks they can change this abberant behaviour.

Pedophillia is a sexual drive for something that is not of the norm. Therefore it is a mental disorder [or so they say]. Homosexuality falls under the same category, and therefore, is the same thing.

Why does Homosexuality have to be a mental disorder if "attraction to children" is.

Because why is "attraction to children" a disorder? Because its a drive that is not of the norm, its disordered thinking. Homosexuality is the exact same thing, the focus has just changed. I dont even agree that Pedophillia is a mental disorder, but internal consistency demands that if one is, the other is too. I do consider both to be mental defects that are cureable, but it doesn't follow that the thinking is "disordered" which naturally lends itself to the implications of insanity and irrationality. Nevertheless until phychyatry no longer recognizes Pedophillia as a mental disorder, and if they are correct in that, homosexuality must be as well.

Where is the line between normal/not normal and what exactly defines it as a disorder vs simple preference? If outside the norm is going to be the criteria for disorder then most of planet is going to be outside the norm since wth is normal anyway when it comes to such things.
