    Default =>Regarding debate teams

    * There will be only two teams at the moment

"The Liberal team and the Conservative team"
The creation of other teams such as "Far Right" or a "Communist" one are at the moment not being accepted. The political mudpit is a place where members can discuss politics and not a place where 10 teams start topics about their political view.

    * Rules, and teams

I want to have a full list of the rules in detail and the team-setup. How will the debates be organized? Topics? etc... etc... Based on that we can judge on whether this project can continue. I dont want to receive suggestions, just a clear list of rules and team-setup. You can make suggestions in the other topics. I highly recommend two leaders for each team to take the responsibility to give me that information within 7 days from now. Again, not a beta version. Staff members can then look into the idea and perhaps open a new forum section, or just cancel the entire show. All threads will get unstuck after 7 days.

So will both team leaders (which are?) just use this topic and give staff a good view on the entire idea behind this formal debate. Seven days is more than enough to build up your team and to define the rules.

Current Status updated at 17th October:

    => Rules
Rules As Agreed Upon by Prarara and Lord Rahl

Regarding Team Members and Debate Topics

The leaders of each team will do the following before each topic has begun,

    I. List the names of who will be participating in the chosen topic.

There are ten members to each team and these members can,

    I. Members from each team may participate in any number of topics.

II. Members from each team cannot switch in or out of topics while the topic is being debated.

III. Leave the team and then the team will continue with one less member. Teams may choose an alternative after a total of five members have left.

IV. Each topic has a post count limit of 50.

    V. Each topic will last two weeks.

VI. There is to be no flaming at all. Rules regarding the formal debates are the same which falls under the rules and regulations of TWC.

VII. The formal debates begin on Saturday 12:00 PM GMT.

VIII. introductions and conclusions will be given before and after each topic. These will not be included in the post count and will include,
    i. The members from each team that will be participating in the decided topic.

IX. The initial five topics will be,
    i.China
    ii.UN
    iii.Iraq War
    iv.Communism v Capitalism
    v.War on Terror

*Latter topics will be decided after these "introduction" topics have been completed.*

    X. These rules may be changed if required.

    Sincerely,

Prarara and Lord Rahl, leaders of the Liberal and Conservative teams

Here's the thread when the rules are pretty much defined as of now. It seems to have got lost in time.

Here is a second topic about what I suggested before, but it is different. It will be a formal debate with the following rules:
    1. Two teams will be formed from each debate, both teams will have two members.
    2. During the debate, each team will make 3 speech posts, after each speech post the other team may have a rebuttal.
    3. Only members of the teams will be able to post in the thread during a debate. (this will need a mod's help)
    4. After the debate a poll will be open, and everyone will vote on the winner, please vote on who made the best debate, not who you agree with.
    5. Any flaming will result in the immediate ending of the debate, with the team that flamed immediately losing.

The first debate: Communism: Is it feasable in real life, or does it only work in theory?

Anyone interested please post. If you have a better idea for the first debate, post it and we will see which one is more popular.
Is it definite? If not, then post the rules in the "Suggestions and definement of rules topic" and show me the rules that the majority have agreed upon after 7 days.

A Simple addition to the signatures of everybody involved, listing everybody in their enitre debate team,
would make it quite simple to, "ignore" the posts of anyone not on the "current" debate teams, and easyer for a mod to find, and delete such posts.

a topic header such as "Debate team members only" would also be advisable, and once the debate ahd finished the thread could then have its title edited to remove the above seggestion, and allow anyone to post.

    Time span?

    So the process is,

    Team L makes one post
    Team C replies..

    and that 3 times...

    topic gets closed.
a poll is being add by a moderator.. and winner is chosen?

How is a team creating a speech post? Is it a combined effort? How long are you allowed to think about your inital post or a reply?

I am the leader of the Conservative team although I do not know of the full extent of the rules. I am currently deciding who will be members of the Conservative team since I have 10 slots and 15 entrants.
just post here when you are done..

remeber guys, the best debates are ussaly Free form.

try and minimanlise the "red tape"

i would suggest each debate topic last for a span of 1 week.
and only members from each debate team are allowed to post.

    -just making suggestions.
im intersted to see what comes of this.

Here is it all, sorry the first post on the old thread is out of date, throughout the thread the rules were remade and reformed.

    2. When the debate starts only those assigned may post on each debate.
    3. There is Absolutely no flaming allowed. Any flames will result in the flamer being removed from the debate.
    4. Of course all post must be germane to the topic
    5. After the debate ends (the length of each debate has yet to be determined) there will be a poll deciding the winner.
So far those are all the agreed upon rules I can think of.

To discuss topics that are normaly difficult in a rational way without the use of flaming. Also, it presents a challenge. The teams keep it more organized.

    Hopefully that explains it clearly.

If it helps, I'll stay neutral in the debate and help keep it organized. Also, the Far-left and Far-right teams are not sanctioned teams, and will, for the time-being, not be allowed to participate.

Those are a little bit old, the idea morphed towards the end of the thread, but if AP and Lord Rahl want to continue those rules, we can make it work and iron out the details.

For length of debate, we can use the suggestion Thread and choose the best idea.

The other teams that I have seen, including the "Crusaders", aren't even participating in the formal debates, so I don't think there is any point in worrying about them.

As I stated in the PM, and this goes for all by the way

Note on the Crusader Party: idiots keep confusing it with the formal debate and close all of my threads on it. So it is shelved for the time being.
Taken from your sig.. not a smart move by the way

Which now entitles me to say the following:

    * THE POLITICAL MUDPIT IS A FORUM SECTION

Here is your place to discuss all things political. Please ensure you respect the views of other members and their right to say them, even if you don't agree with them. Enjoy!!
We encourage the engagements between political views. It is a discussion board, and I dont want to see 15 threads of members who belong to some kind of group. You already saw what happened, when you tried to have your own "club". Another member opened a thread for communists only. And this would go and on. And certainly not a development that I would like to see.

What is the purpose of such a thread anyway? To express how much you guys agree with each other? It will bound to spamming in the long run, and there is no way that I can prevent other members to join the topic and just flame you guys for your political views. In other words, this will increase the burden for the moderators. And this is a crucial element, on why I think topics like the "Crusader Club" and "The Communist gang" wont work out.

Now if you want to create your own "Club"

then I can offer you the following:

    * use private messaging
    * use your signature to advertise, keep it within the limits
    * create your own forum board, there are lots of free ones

But for now, I wont tolerate any additional topics regarding "Join this, if you believe in that".
Additionally you could exchange IM with those members. And keep contact with them. If you think that this decision is not justified then contact Sulla or Archer.

I will update the first post in order to include the conservative team. AP, you got 11?

Just post in this topic when there are changes or when the teams have agreed on other elements of the formal debate.

    A neutral team? Where?

Those not taken under the umbrella of any of the two teams, should be allowed to form their own team.
