This is more aimed at Irish members.

Has anyone seen this program? It tries to represent isolated working class rural irish life in the modern day through comedy. I find it quite amusing, I am not sure if people outside of Ireland will get the humour as much. RTE are shite, they have nothing interesting on, they need more stuff like this. Its original, its funny and its clever in its' own way.

Let me remind you again, this will be hard to get if you are not from Ireland.

*sigh* Irish humour makes me glad I'm British.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Go watch The Inbetweeners, How Not to Live Your Life, or Peep Show.

And Black Books. Although made in Britain, written solely by Dylan.

I never could really get into Black Books, it's OK but hardly one of my favourite comedies.

I love it, along with Monty Python and Peep show.

Peep Show and Inbetweeners are great. But the only reason Ireland only has a few good comedies is to do with RTE and something to do with the population of Ireland and funds for programs.

I usually find that the Irish have a better sense of humour than the British, whenever I meet British people abroad they are either serious and boring or incredibly drunk. Irish people are more up for a laugh in general.

To be fair there's a few decent Irish comedians (Father Ted was good too), but your TV is appalling. You don't need a big budget to be funny, just look at Red Dwarf, and all those British comedies I named are relly low budget too.
The many Irish I've met (my city is a university city and many Irish people come here to study because the Irish education system is presumably crap) have been the really serious ones, taking themselves way too seriously, though 've met a few all right Irish lads. Been some fun Irish girls too though haha, but you can't really generalise the personalities of an entire two nations of people.

Thats why I said not all the time. But in general that is what I experienced in England and abroad.

Also, RTE are conservative, they don't take chances, which pisses off everyone who watches it. And the budget and population limits RTE's shows a lot.

You can't really generalise a population of over 51 million, England and the English in particular are very diverse.

Budget and population shouldn't really be an issue, that's a poor reason for bad TV, most shows in the UK are really low budget but manage to be good, ie Doctor Who and the aforementioned comedies. ot everything on British TV is good however, in Scotland one of the most awful and irritating shows ever aired is still played ( River City, I hate it, it makes Eastenders look incredible by comparison). I suspect the main reason is just that RTE as you said doesn't want to take any chances, that would be rather inhibitive to creativity and originality.

TV3 definitely takes chances, NEKKID people on prime-time Friday night tv!

@The Xand, I wouldn't agree with you on Doctor Who being good, but each to their own....

Never heard of it or saw it advertised on tv.
    Didn't find it funny.

Home-grown Irish tv isn't great. However Irish channels do show great films long before British stations, which appear to have abandoned the movie to the Sky and home rental markets.

And yes you really can't generalise.

Hardy Bucks is too stupid to be funny.
