hey guys
how far are we from that reality?
are there any prototypes or projects under development?
what can we expect about it in the future, revolution in gaming or just eye candy?

Yes.
Lets go hunting. It could be a shooter game, except it's with real stuff and 3d, with real animal's like deers![]()
Nvidia's been doing "3D vision" for over a year now, it works with most games.
yeah i played Battlefield bad company 2 using the stereoscopic 3d with the 3d discover Nvidia glasses, it was crazy
didn't Avatar have this
Oh no the picture of my dog disappeared!
At the moment 3D is still on the gimmicky side where it has been for the past 50 years, it may find a it's ideal market in video games but at the moment we are retrospectively adding 3D support to existing titles it will much better when games are designed for 3D from the ground up.
As mention Nvidia has it's closed sourced 3D vision technology which has been around for while now, all you need is a powerful Geforce video card a new 120hz monitor and £100 of 3d equipment and your set to go. AMD as per usual are trailing behind and have only recently announced it's 3D solution which will be open source and in partnership with Samsung who are producing 3D monitors so all you need is the silly glasses.
Freddie is right on as usual, its very gimmicky right now.
For current games its headache inducing and adds little to the game. I've seen some stuff designed specifically for it and it could be awesome but until the games are designed from the ground up to work in 3d it won't be anything beyond gimmick.
"When I die, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like Fidel Castro, not screaming in terror, like his victims."
My shameful truth.
Nah its quite.
Still years away to be standard in gaming.
I have a copy of PC Gamer from roughly 1996 reviewing 3D (stereoscopic) gaming equipment. For some reason, it never caught on.
From every review I've read, when it works it works well. When it doesn't, it hurts.
Both glasses trick your vision into quickly changing between the blue and red colours, to make images pop out . Its basically just advanced trickery. New glasses try and go through this process by switching between the colours really fast, instead of relying on your brain to switch between them, so its less headache inducing.

Thats not how new glasses work. The shutter glasses match the refresh rate of the monitor, so one eyes is closed for the half the time and the other eye is closed the other half. The monitor/glasses are timed so that each eye sees a slightly different image, creating the illusion of 3d. There is no use of red/blue.
