Repair port to resume trade?
I just bought this game and started as Great Britain and have been focusing on the trade aspect of the game. After going to war with France, they blockaded one of my trade ports. Almost all my trade halted. So, I sent my fleet and destroyed theirs. But my trade never resumed. After multiple turns of losing money, going bankrupt, and surviving a revolution, I still hadn't figured out why my trade hadn't resumed. In the trade window, it said that all my sea trade was blockaded. Then I noticed that my trade port needed to be repaired from the French blockade. After I did that, my trade resumed.
Now, in the process of trying to figure my trade issue out, I never found a thread talking about fixing your port to resume trade. But, was this the issue? Was my damaged port causing my nation to go bankrupt?

Yes. A damaged port doesn't trade, cause a damaged building is useless. Just like a damaged farm/mine doesn't give any income, it's the same with ports. With damaged barracks you can't train troops
two pieces of advice:- you see when a building is damaged when smoke comes out of it
- place a cheap infantry unit in the port. Another nation cannot invade it anymore, so it can't damage it anymore. Howver, another nation will still be able to blockade it. But then you just wipe them away with your fleet. The port isn't damaged, so it doesn't need repair, and yo won't lose any trade income

If a trade port gets damaged, it shuts down. Therefore getting your enemies out of it and repairing it is vital for your economic interest. Since most of Great Britains income relies on trade ports. One of my ports is generating 20k a turn, and if it got shut down, I'd be in massive economic trouble. So as GB, you should always keep a fleet in port at home to serve as port defense.
