I suppose first thing is to make sure is that before you start playing, close all other programmes, so that when you start, its only Rome that is running.

    Hi there.
Try clear up some free memory for game cache. And make sure your processor can concentrate as much power as possible on RTW by closing Explorer (not a joke, internet activity takes a ton of power and memory space). Only way HD space has any influence is, if it is not properly used.

well, im not sure if im allowed to post it, but there is a .exe tweak that you can make, it decreased my loading times from 3 min to under 20 sec, if a mod can approve it, gives it an ok, ill post it here

Tweaking (i.e. changing the exe) in any way, shape or form is against the ToS, so don't post it please.

Its no different to changing things like texture files to make new skins, or messing around with other game files to make super powerful units. Everybody who can does it. I can't actually change the .exe (I think its hardcoded, and I cant get past stuff like that) but I always change random little details in the game, and download other small (or big, in the case of RTR) mods. If total war didnt want people to mod the game, why make it so easy? I mean, most games have everything hidden away in packs, but the majority of rtw files are easy to change.

No its not the same, one is protected by copyright laws the other has been made available to us to alter as we so choose. The stuff we're allowed to mod is accessible, the code to the game (i.e. the content of the exe) is not.

Frankly i find it rather odd that people can not make it so that they dont need to get up, walk to the CD rack, pick up RTW, walk back, take other disk out, put rtw disk in, put other disk in box, put other box in rack, walk back to the chair and close the disk drive. they did pay for it after all so a bit of no-cd lazyness is surely ok to have as long as you dont go bragging about it on a public forum? i wouldnt blame the people that have it.

A ramdrive would get the optimum for loading times.

    Try defragmenting your hard drive.

Between battles? No way. Now obviously an altered exe that skips the CD check will load faster when first starting the game especially if you have a slow CD drive, but it won't improve battlefield loading times.

It could just be the type of OS you have. For me Vista RTW runs like a dream but XP RTW lags like .
when the union's inspiration through the worker's blood shall run,
there can be no power greater anywhere beneath the sun,
yet what force on earth is weaker than the feeble strength of one?
but the union makes us strong.
