That's what 1-turn recruitment for. Or, alternatively, http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=204477
Though I don't know if that works in 1.6a, but in 1.6 w/ 0-turn it worked well.
If you're unhappy with the unit costs, and want to lower the amount of available troops, there are a few things you can do. Firstly, try 1-turn recruitment instead of 0 so it takes longer to get full stacks. The ai won't be able to recover as quickly so decisive victories will be more important.
Also, you could edit the unit costs on your own. Asking the modders to do that before releasing the new version is irrelevant since we don't know how the economy will work. As for them editing 1.6 to reduce stacks, I'd rather them work on version 2 and take feedback from the community to patch (if needed) later.

But if one faction was strong at the time, I would rather that is accurately reflected in the game. History is more important (to me) than perfect game balance between the factions. This isn't Warhammer; it's history.
i usually play with Europa barbarorum's unit upkeep cost and one turn recruitement, for slower, less spammy gameplay
IMHO i would rather see the vanilla system of available unit slots as per technological advances etc and variable unit turns..
..i dunno neither the 1 turn or the 0 turn really turns me on (ok... sorry about the punny sentance), but take TATW or med2 for example or even ETW more complex and higher stat units take longer to churn out which just makes sense also on a placebo level it feels right, i dont see how a crack legion of caesar augustus's finest can get cranked out at the same pace as a vellite(apologies on the spelling), higher stat and more exotic units should take time to churn.
so once you build an elite legion its almost like an achievement rather than a matter of time.....
maybe im off base here but i think it makes the game way more interesting... however one thing about rtw's recruitment system that really is a awesome feature is the retraining of damaged troops that they all go through at once regardless of position in the queue ... if i knew how to mod that little feature it would make my med2 campaigns way more fun.....
I love how NTW and ETW is doing it, allowing you to train more than one unit at once. I'm sure most of the RTW modders would agree that it's so much better than the RTW unit que. 0-turn is simply the best option that is possible to have in RTW. If we could train multiple multturns units at the same time I'm sure we would have implemented it.

Super factions at times can get annoying but they can also provide a serious challenge for a player. A multi front war with Seleucid, Scythia. It's awesome

of course!!!
you guys are legends, i realised after seeing all the bits and pieces that you put in RS 1 , i thought to myself '..i wonder if they...' and i immediately dismissed the idea as i knew it would of been deliberated and tried by the mighty RS team. iwas just speaking from a personal viewpoint, or rather wet dream point (snikker)

one of the few things i like in NTW is that units replenish themselves on friendly terrain each round
We have a built in one-turn recruitment modfoldered camapign for all factions in RS2. Our one-turn guys seem to like it pretty well.
But, the title of this thread is misleading. Playing 0-turn and facing a lot of armies is quite different from 'Super Factions'....which in general RTW parlance means that several factions swallow up the map and you never see the others in your campaigns. I have not seen that happen in RS2 except in the rarest instances.
As for 1-turn vs 0-turn, Century X has likely hit the nail on the head in terms of defining why 0-turn is better than 1-turn. It simply provides a better challenge
for people who ARE challenged by the feeling of being overwhelmed by superior numbers. Granted, sometimes you might play 5 battles in a row and it takes 45 minutes to conclude a fight over a spot on the map.....but dang, you sure know you fought for it when it's done! It's just playing with a different mindset and 'feel' for the game, and I kinda resent it when people say things like 'stack spamming', because it implies some kind of deficiency. No, it isn't. It's simply the way I like to play and be challenged, while another may not like that. And that's fine, we try to fit player preferences.

Yeah I meant for RS2,
I just think its more strategic actually to have LESS stacks on the map because it makes you take everything more srsly.
I mean I always end up loseing heart to finish a campaign just cause Macedon ends up haveing like 20 stacks.

Dont get me wrong I'm a passionate lover of 60 min battles but srsly fighting 20 or so hour long battles just to do it over again the next turn is more then enough for me to hit ESC.
