And i am wondering, is it worth doing the Vanilla Campaign or should i mod the game straight away with something like darthmod?
any opinions would be appreciated!

Hmm, got the same, Darthmod looks pretty great, currently playing Vanilla Empire, you should just experiment with both...
Mod it right away is my advice

skip vanilla. Start playing Darthmod or DMUC immediately. You won't miss anything skipping vanilla.

If you are going to play Darthmod, I would suggest waiting for 5.6. It should be out this weekend (probably) and it specifically tailored to work best with ETW 1.6, as well as adding some great new features. I'd stick with Vanilla for a few days. Maybe play through the early 1-4 episodes.
Play vanilla first for a bit, *then* decide what Mods you want after looking over their change logs.
Dominion of Dust. A city of sand. Built your world of nothing. So how long did it stand?
A 100 years? Now wasn't it grand? Built your world of nothing. How long did it stand?
What did you think would happen? When did you think it would all fall down?
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Did yourself right, so let's feel grand.
Domain of dust in a land of sand. Now there's nowhere left to stand.
I personally haven't felt any reason to mod ETW yet and I've put 130+ hours on it, but that's just me. I tried APE a couple times but I always uninstall it, hell I don't even play with AUM.
hahaha. its not easy to like the vanilla game

What happened was the enemy had some cannons in the fort and I had men on the wall who weren't firing. So, I started to move them down the steps, whereupon the cannons opened fire, destroyed the wall and decimated the unit in the process!Last time I send men up the walls when there are cannons in the fort.

I go for the cannons first. If I have my own cannons, I will blow several holes in the forts and try to charge cavalry in to take them out. If I don't have enough cavalry or any at all, I will try to get my infantry to scale the walls on the side of the cannon as fast as I can and charge the cannons as and engage in melee where in turn I will enter the Square Formation preventing the enemy cavalry from making a counter charge and routing my infantry.![]()
