    Default TATW is too easy?

I don't know if it's just me but I doubt that it is.

I have lately begun to play TATW a lot again when 1.4 came out and such and I can't help but feel as I did before. All the factions are too easy. I don't really feel that there is any kind of struggle. Some factions in themselves are ridiculously easy like rhun and harad, really shielded positions and no real threat of invasions. High elves being one of the others aswell.

Basically it feels like some factions are sort of noob factions and I think that's a shame because some of those factions have incredible lore that you'd want to roleplay with while you're playing and it's such a shame that it's so easy then.

Before anyone asks yes I do play on vh/vh and I think that the game needs to be made harder I mean I'm done imposing my own rules upon myself. Such as only stone walls can have very high, wooden wall is high, palisade is normal, and no walls is low. Never recruiting additional generals. Not changing capital to fit economy. Etc etc, heroic victory after heroic victory just does it in.

I don't know what can be done about this but I think that tatw needs a challenge ramp-up. I don't really have any suggestions for this or anything I'm just ranting.

Anyone else feel the same way?

You obviously want a challange - I think you are playing the wong mod.
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

TATW is not really any harder OR easier than vanilla M2TW. Its objective is to recreate the time of war of the ring - it's not a difficulty mod. I'm not sure how you got the idea that it should be.

    Sad but true.

The game should be fun for as many people as possible- That`s why the mod neither stays too true to lore, but also doesn`t neglects lore too much.

Make it too hard and you`ll lose the casual gamer audience. Make it too easy and you might lose the hardcore player audience.. I think the team found a good middle ground.

If you want a challenge you should maybe try the OotMM.. They are pretty weak. (And if you want a real challenge play hayasdan in Europa Barbarorum for Rome tw.)

Try playing the Templars in King Kong's Stainless Steel... then come back here and we'll all have a nice warm cup of hot chocolate

I think it's abit lazy not to add scripts for the wider audience, when so much else is developed. By doing so, difficulty may be optional by adding (Y/N) popup scripts in the first turn.

    RPG Script.
    AI economic aid Script.
Inflation and restriction Scripts (for player).

Instead, everything is soft and round on the edges. Lots of good work done on TATW, but it lacks this one imortent bit.

    LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I decided to play it on VH/VH a while back, I fought to the last man in the Holy Land, got my rocked, survived for 100 turns, and then had my last stand

After which I said F$CK IT ALL and moved myself to Sicily with all I had left, took over southern Italy, clicked forward about 150 turns, sold all my provinces to invest into an invasion force, went back to the Middle East...Carved a Bloody Swath through my enemies, took Jerusalem, Damascus and Antioch, then hunkered down.
    WHAT HAPPENED THEN?

The Armies of Mohammed came after me SALADIN STYLE and rocked my world. Dead in 20 Turns Shoulda stayed in Italy lol

I've played through about 100 turns on vh/vh, I have 20+ provinces, a decent economy and, importantly, the papacy. I'm just about to wade into the islamic factions in north africa; the best game of TW i've ever played.

If you really want a challenge and don't mind playing RTW. Try Forth Age total war the Wars of Men. As Adunabar.

    http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=175545

That is one tough start, you start out with your capital under threat by an elite Gondor army and you have a small army of basic troops to defend it. Plenty of enemies you will soon find yourself under attack from 3 other factions and your best troops will take a long time to produce.

Seconded. If what you care about more than anything else is challenge, Pontos or Hayasdan in Europa Barbarorum are infamously challenging campaigns of the Total War universe. Saka's up there too.

OotMM are definitely the best choice for challenge in TA though, as they start surrounded by potential enemies and have generally crappy units (particularly early on). Gondor is also difficult because they face Mordor and Harad at once with little backup, but they do also have very powerful units. But I take it you already tried all the factions and none were hard enough for you.

I like how I got flamed several times especially the part of me saying some factions seem to be "noob factions" by this I mean that they are very noob friendly because of how easy they are to play which makes experienced players avoid them because there is no challenge.

If you disagree please use your intellect to retort instead of insulting me and making jokes. However, I'd also like to thank some of the other posters for their serious responses and their suggestions. Thank you.
