    Default Installer....

I have started working on the installer, and I just want to relate that this is a nightmare!
The way I used to create these...basically from scratch, was by the differences in the dates of the files, if I wasn't exactly sure which files were new.
But this SVN thing has resulted in every single RTW file being stored on the server, and they are ALL the same dates!!
Whose bright idea was it to store all the files that way!!?? I can see all the changes since we started using SVN, but I have no idea where to start because
I don't know what was put on the server TO start with. Anyway, this sucks.

End of rant...back to going thru every file everywhere to find changes.

Dvk you can export the files so that you only get the most current ones.

Just go SVN/export and make sure to not have the "export unversioned file too" checked.

Yes, once I get together what needs to be in it. Thanks Squid. I was hoping you'd make one.

If you select SVN ---> export, it'll download you all the files with their original dates on. Then you can remove stuff with an earlier date, e.g. 2004-2006. Oh, sorry - I've just seen Apple has already said that.

Well, I've done the export thing, without 'Export unversioned files' checked as Apple said, and all of the dates (well, at least most of them) are 10-24-2009, which I assume is the date it got put on the server. And already I find errors in it which make me pull out my hair (for example, it exported NOTHING from the 'vegetation' folder, which is all new stuff), and I wonder if I can even trust the stupid thing. After all, it exported a bunch of peasant .cas files and things we never used, but totally skipped the whole vegetation folder!! Grrrrr

I imagine that the problem is that RTW + BI + RS2Beta8 got put on the server....so as far as the server is concerned everything that got changed BEFORE that is just 'part of the original', and only everything changed AFTER that are the modifications.....but then, I'm not even seeing much consistency there (as noted above), because I'm having to compare everything with Vanilla, RS2_Beta_8, and SVN to figure out what's mod and what's not....and SVN has exported things I KNOW we didn't change.

So the upshot is, folks...what SVN exported is NOT our mod, and is therefore useless.

I downloaded the whole thing just after I uploaded the mod initially in September and it has all the right dates. i also started doing an export this morning to test it out and it was putting all correct dates on. If you want to you could let me do the file sorting.....I've probably altered more of them than you.

I don't understand that. I did an export yesterday exactly as Apple instructed, and nearly every file in it is dated 10-24-2009 except whatever we changed after that?

    Here's the Models_unit folder:

Almost every single file, INCLUDING all the old RTW junk, is dated that way.

I'm sorry, I don't want to dump more work on you, but if you're getting the original dates, it would sure be easier to sort things out.

Actually just whether the folder that I made was an amalgamation of all the RS2 downloads prior to creating the repository and that might be what I did. Anyway, I'll see what I can do.

Wouldn't it be possible to just put together all of the files that are in the latest update of the beta and use that to make the installer?

The problem is that there are a load of vanilla files in there.

I always thought that SVN export simply removed the hidden .svn folders out of the working copy and put the result in a new folder...?
It might be worth asking HoH.

Or OrtHanner. He did the FoE installer, so maybe he knows from experience...

The problem is that because RS2 isn't mod foldered, we included a load of vanilla files / folders in the repository, so we need to remove those first.

Ah, yes I see the point... Sorry I can't be of any help here...

Btw, have you thought of giving the user the option to let the installer copy all RTW vanilla files to a secondary folder in which RS gets installed?
