As Spain I was sieging Amsterdam.

End turn.

In between turns Amsterdam sallied out. I won the battle...but before my turn could come around Westphalia moved in and took Amsterdam...

It was a great battle too. @800 (me) vs 1700 (Dutch)...

Westphalia was my ally too...lol...

This ever happened to any of you?

Yes ,a few times this has happened to me,very annoying eh ? And especially when an Ally does that,then i had to declare war on them to take the city afterall !

use the unrest after a siege. use rakes to destroy happy buildings, cause a revolt and then once your ally lost control - take whats rightfully yours

Me too.

I didn't want to risk Amsterdam falling into the hands of the Prussians...

And for whatever reason the Westphalians were able to pacify Amsterdam almost instantly.

You can always decline to join an ally's battle, in which case they typically loose. At the very least, they have a chance of loosing.

I had the same problem with my Prussian siege of London. While consuming most of their empire, I was laying siege to London to accelerate the process. A small allied French army kept attacking London (I already held Ireland and Scotland) during my siege, but I would decline to help each time. Upon each attempt, the French would loose and scuttle off. I would occasionally break my own siege to keep the city from surrendering. Ultimately, I took the city when I was ready, and France got nothing.

It happens all the time when your allies are close by. I don't even help my allies in sieges most of the time because of that.

! The f-ing Iruqois nearly did that to me!!! I made them happy, sailed off to India and those pesky friends of mine attacked my city! Damn them! Sad thing though.
