    Default Wood Elves and roads

As the Silvan Elves, what are people's opinions on building roads? Normally it's my knee jerk thing to do, road the bejaysus out of everywhere asap, but Ive noticed it destroys all those lovely trees along the pathways, thus making what was normally an auto ambush territory into a not-so-easy -to-ambush territory. Should I build them or not? Do many enemies often venture into the woods, and if so, is it better to have the trade bonus and faster moving armies or dump them in favor of a much more defensible homeland?
Man 1 - I have an awful joke for you
Man 2 - Oh really? What's so bad about it?
Man 1 - It has no punchline.

You blew my mind with your signature.
Uh, I myself build the roads, I just can't stand not having them, it's like eating potato chips and ignoring those which are crispy; it just isn't physically possible damnit.
I suppose the ambushes help, but I manage fairly well without them.

i always build roads in forests when they stop being frontier provinces. as SE, you should buld roads as soon as the woodland realm is secured from invasions and attacks.
alliances with dale and dwarves are, thus, necessary.

    Where did you post that?

As you might know I've been working on a mod compilation that will include VE full which means it will have all the unique building I made and more

Beregond - sorry, I'm not up to scratch with my knowledge of submods here. Is there one which gives a road alternative for SE?

@ Supreme Turkey Lord - Your similie astonishes me. Bravo.

it's originally from axnsan's submod unique buildings

they gave trade bonuses and did not destroy the trees. Other factions after capturing Silvan Elves' settlement received a trade penalty to simulate their non existant knowledge of the surroundings

I think they should be in RC/RR

Yeah, I've really been wanting the Elvish roads to be built. They improve army speed and trade, but do not show up on the Campaign Map so your trees are in tact.

But I've already seen it in sub-mods? All you have to do is have a building that increases trade. Now I am not sure about the increasing army speeds part though.

    That's the catch.

I personally build roads because, you know the AI will be smart enough to march along the roads so you know where to ambush.

Just place archers on either side of the road that leads into the forest. The enemy not seeing your armies will naturally take the roads to your town.

Woops next thing ya know your enemy will be bathing in arrows!

remember also that defending a bridge is very easy....especially with the elven factions or any faction with great archers...just pile your archers in a fan at one end and a couple of melee units to stop the advance and wait till they build up at one end and fire away. in minutes you slaughter a full stack of orc(if against mordor) loose maybe a battalion of spear infantry. gain expriance fast and the remainder of your army is untouched. walla.

I love seeing a mass of arrows and all that blood that splirts in the crowd of orcs after each volley!

It is beautiful! Sorry to any Mordor fans but, it looks fascinating that all the orcs just can't move there are that many arrows!

I always wonder why it was Saruman who first came up with such powerful industry and the Uruk-hai.

He didn't come up with the Uruk-hai. Sauron did, during the Third Age. Saruman bred his own Uruk-hai much later, making improvements such as resistance to sunlight and more upright stature.

Gotcha. I don't know too much about the lore, so I thank you for the correction.
I read the trilogy something like five years ago, and I've only recently(Third Age Total War's influence?)
bought the Silmarillion, and have not started it, as I'm reading through the Dune series and books written by Churchill on the second World War.

No roads for me, I managed to finish my Campaign without building any Roads at Mirkwood and Lorien the lands I conquered are exceptions though.
