quick question about Square formation

are my units supposed to be able to fire their muskets in square ? because i swear i've never seen them do it before.

Yes, normally they will. You will lose a lot of firepower, since not everyone is firing at the same. I very rarely use it.

Yes, they fire their muskets and always have IIRC.
I'm not sure whether they stop when engaged in melee (as they do when not squared).

Yes they do, but as the whole square counts as a unit instead of each individual side, if one soldier on one side has fired and is reloading, the whole square will wait for him to finish before they can fire.

why oh why does CA program like that?

I'm sure everybody has the issue where if the first line in fire by rank causes an enemy to flee, they all stop reloading, before starting again. ITS INFURIATING! JUST HAVE THE FRONT LINE KNEEL OH MY GOD!!!!

And the retarded part is all I got to do is to position a horse 15 metres(stupid american computers,underlining my British spelling) away from them and they will do a square, before I take pot shots at them. They will be SO focused on re-adjusting again and again, they will NEVER shoot. In slow-mo, it looks damn retarded(and funny) when their buddy falls and all they do is re-adjust
