    Default How to change Naval crew???

    I played around endlessly with ETW's dbeditor, and want to give the factions some semblence of the correct marines and crew. I have the units i want to use, but how can i go about doing this, considering there isn't yet a dbeditor for NTW??? when i tried using ETW's one, it wouldn't save a new .pack....

    As you found out, there is no DBeditor yet for NTW. Know anyone that can program c++? (or is it a .net framework. I can't remember atm.) Anyways you can change those values using the NTW PFM editor. Edit the Unit_naval_stats table. There is a value for the crew size that you might be able to change. Might not either. There could be a crew size limit depending on the ship model, just a guess on my part though. As far as marines.. no idea. It might very well be one of the many unknown values there.

    The DBEditor is written in C#. Anyway, he's looking for the unit_stats_naval_crew and unit_stats_naval_crew_to_factions tables. Plus you'll want the fix in this post in the DBFileTypes folder in PFM. Overwrite the file of the same name.

    Thanks for your responses,
    I had found the right place to edit the crew models as you can see from the photo, but if i try to save over the release "data.pack" file i get a CTD upon loading NTW...???

    How do i create a new .pack file so i can have just this one archive changed just like all the mods i download?

    I tried creating a .pack following your tutorial, but for some reason i can see no change in the models. i'm surprised there is no CTD, leading me to believe that the game recognises the unit name i've put in but doesn't do anything with it, OR the packfile ive created isn't being recognised at all.

    EDIT: changing to movie format does nothing.

    It looks like the naval crew models (in this case, it's euro_marnines)) are still the ETW kind. You'll need bring over models and textures from ETW to replace the euro_marines ones or use ones in data.pack/unitmodels.

    Thats ridiculous! So you're saying i cant use the textures from another mod to represent the marines?? If i replaced the euro_marines model, then it would change for all factions, and the whole point of my endeavours is to have each faction have different marines!

    any thoughts erasmus777?

    You can experiment and see if you can get the new model styles to work. Change the euro_marine model to euro_line, then do all the stuff required to define a unit_variant file. Plus you leave the euro_marines model alone. You add a new entry and give it only to your faction. Check out my ETW tutorial on changing the crew if you haven't already.

    ah this tutorial is great, but when following your steps to create a new entry for marines, this is what happens:
    I clone the euro_marines
    and then change the name of the new one to british_marines,
    and then change the model to what i want it to be.
    then upon saving the changes it just resets the "british_marines" back to "euro_marines"! i keep the changed model entry but the ID reverts back.
    any ideas why?

    Since yesterday i've been playing around with endless alterations, but the closest i've got to it working is a CTD !!!
    To get around the stats reseting (is this what hard-coded means?) i exported the .tsv and changed it there - which seemed fine - but then i got ctd.
    The process works fine in Empire, i remember discovering it myself last year...
    please any assistance would be grand!

    Here is the pack i made with the most progression, and the most in it - I've got the textures for the new unit in there.

    This doesn't include the cost of paying a highly trained Navy crew for the extra time required in PSA to accomplish the ... In summary, change in a naval shipbuilding program is not categorically "bad." It for the most part reflects.

    I tested it and I'm 99% sure you're going to need to import an ETW model, unless you can find one of the Empire style models in data.pack that you'd like to use. I'd suggest using the ETW Swedish units with the top hats. Can't remember their names, but iirc they look about right for what you want.

    What the hell is this all about though CA? We HAVE to use ETW models in a mod for NTW???

    Surely there must be a way to use the textures for the game in question! what distinguishes the models from Empire to those in NTW? maybe this can be bridged...?

    I could be wrong, but I've tried a couple different methods and couldn't get it to work. It has to do with the way the models are rendered. In ETW each unit has a single model. In NTW, each unit has a skeleton and then each part of the skeleton has a different mesh applied over it, so that it's really a composite of model parts as opposed to a single model. Once we get a model converter working, then we can bridge the problem, but for right now, I'm not sure how to do it. In the meantime, take a look at the Swedish unit I mentioned. I really think it'll work for you.

    Cheers man youve been a great help nonetheless, I really don't understand why they don't make these things accessible to us from the start. If you're the type who wants to mod, then you shouldn't have to wait around till the developers decide its time we had the tools.
