    Default 6.2 Crusade/Diplomacy Problem

    Hi all,

    First some facts:
I'm play as England and have just destroyed the Irish on vh/vh
The pope called a Crusade against Cairo owned by Egypt
I am allied with the Papal States and have a marriage alliance with Genoa
Genoa have an alliance with Egypt
Papal States are also at war with Egypt

Now when I try to join the Crusades Genoa breaks their alliance (outstanding relationship, even perfect if I gift them some money) with me and my relationship with the Papal States goes from reasonable to very bad, making me lose 2 crosses.

I guess Genoa breaking the alliance can make sense but why would the Papal States be angry at me joining the crusade, kind of half defeat the point of the crusade.

Btw, absolutely love the 6.2 mod. It is so much more challenging.

Anyone have any tips on getting more alliances? I can't seem to get any more than my current 4 without offering large sums of money.

Wait for a few turns to join the crusade. Genoa should join it and break their alliance with Egypt. Also, recruit a bunch of priests and take them with you on the crusade. The Pope will love it.

I'll bet lunch that someone in the know shows up and confirms that the higher setting has something to with the diplomacy issues....My 2cents anyhow...

Eh... sometimes VH affects diplomacy but in this case it is more likely that Pope likes Genoa more than you and until Genoa joins the Crusade and breaks it alliance you are better off preparing an army with priests. Although as England I wouldn't bother. You are way to far away to do much unless you don't mind sitting in a single city for 100 turns. If you send a big army it will be 30 or more turns before you get it back of which 20 you will have to pay for it while it is useless aboard a ship.

I see your point but its strange because Genoa are at war with HRE who are allied with the Papal States. I would have thought the AI would like their allies more than the enemy of their other ally, not to mention I'm joining a crusade the Papal States called against an enemy that they've been at war with for quiet a while or is there such a huge bias against the player in VH.

You can expect the AI to always choose another AI over the human player. I support this, as it makes diplomacy slightly more challenging.

Thanks guys for the input. Just wanted to say Remonster6x was right, Genoa did break the alliance with Eygpt after a while although they did not declare war. Thanks again to all that responded
