I like history but i mostly love the middle ages. Its not easy to say why.Perhaps because its a period that we know more things than the dark ages, yet it is a bit mysterious.Death was common, writing was not and people were pious

I like the middle ages, but I enjoy the most the 17th and 18th century European history. I also enjoy the ideas that came out of Europe during the late 19th and early 20th century. Though I must say I haven't really been interested in the history of other parts of the world like middle east, africa, americas, and east asia.

Medieval history and european history in the 17th and 18th century.
The glory ages of Rome.
Why did it have to fall?! The world could be unified as a single nation, one solid power and we'd be many more years into the future!![]()

Ancient Rome..and the Red Scares..
The period between 1500 and 1800 was undoubtely the most ripe and most intellectually and morally fulfilled period of Western history. Afterwards, 1800-1950 is good for material bigness and ambition. Post-war period is lame and filled with a cheap nihilism in both spiritual and concrete matters, a sign of petrification and senility above all.
"Romans not only easily conquered those who fought by cutting, but mocked them too. For the cut, even delivered with force, frequently does not kill, when the vital parts are protected by equipment and bone. On the contrary, a point brought to bear is fatal at two inches; for it is necessary that whatever vital parts it penetrates, it is immersed. Next, when a cut is delivered, the right arm and flank are exposed. However, the point is delivered with the cover of the body and wounds the enemy before he sees it."

Here Heinz is pictured in better days. Dashing across France, wind blowing through his military issue haircut only moments before. Oh for happier days.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Heinz has amazing genetics however, hasn't aged a bit. What's your secret? Suzanne Sumer's Thighmaster?

Interesting periods of history for me:
Late antiquity/ early medieval period. The time when the world as we know it was formed, and when the old one was destroyed. Disasters, mass migrations and collapsing empires all over the world.
The late medieval period in Europe. A desperate time of strange changes, which brought the prosperity of previous days to an end. It shows the drastic effects that climate change and epidemics can have on human society. If the dark ages were the birth of the modern world, this was puberty.
India, at practically any time. So many new, brilliant ideas and philosophies were emerging there. Buddhism, Sikhism, the Hindu reform movements, various forms of Sufism, the list goes on. India is a very wonderful and colourful place, which makes it's bloody history even more saddening.
The Mongol invasions. The Mongol hordes were definitely the greatest empire that the world has ever known. Only politics and lucky coincidences stopped them from marching all the way to the Rhine.
"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones."
- Marcus Aurelius, Roman Emperor from 161 AD to 180 AD
I think from 1789 until 1815 would have probably been the most interesting and exciting time to live in. I would have probably gone into the navy if I were around then.
