    Default how do you make diplomats unrecruitable?

    anyone know? +rep for help!

    becausue their are like 200 of them running around in italy in my campaign, and they slow be down by offering cease fires, and bribe the beep out of me. I dont like them.

    I would rather remove the diplomat as a recruitable unit. can anyone help me? I dont like diplomats, even costly ones. EDIT: wait, how do you edit the cost of diplomats. I could make them cost like a hundred billlion denari, that would keep them from being used. so how do you do that?

    all i know they are the people who usually annoys you just to let you know their mounting an invasion at you like the part where they keep on bugging you with useless proposals and the next thing you know there at you doorstep knocking

    I guess you could open the export_descr_buildings file, search for "diplomat" with ctrl+f and delete all of their recruitment code. Just be sure to backup the file first.

    Avoid getting bribed by bribing them first, ofc. Do what Rome did best

    yes but if you bribe them your upkeep will rise! assassinating them is best! I used to train my assassins on diplomats and rebbel captains!

    Or put them on a boat along with the rest of those unrest makers and sent them heading for egypt or some other hellish rat hole. An honourable death at sea aint so bad They also make nice scouts.

    I think the point the OP was making is not his own diplomats, rather the AI's sending endless diplomats who camp outside your settlements.

    I've found diplomats can be quite hard to kill with Assassins, and sending assassins to kill them, or bribing them costs a lot. If you can put up with them, they are more prevalent in the earlier game, the less factions there are, obviously the less diplomats there are.

    However, if you get rid of diplomats, you will never get trade or alliances or anything else with the AI so they are quite useful, even if they do breed like rabbits on viagra to start with.

    Look for the export_desc_building in the data folder.
    Make a backup.
    Open it, and search for diplomat.
    You should find a line like that.
    Code:
    agent diplomat  0  requires factions { barbarian, }
    Just delete it.
    Then do the same for every instance of this kind of line.
    Save.
    You're done.

    Bribing a diplomant costs about 7-8k denarii on average no? And yeah getting that map information and those trade rights are a must for a healthy economy. It's important to find the right balance between bribes, Assassinations and negotiations on your lands, that of your neighboors/allies/enemies. If in example Carthage revolts, you wanna know about it.

    I think it depends on the diplomat's traits for sure, but I've seen them ask for 20K+, It seems to go up later in the game (but I wouldn't swear to that, I know they are expensive to bribe in my late-stage campaign now).

    Probably your best bet is to make them more expensive which would deter the AI from recruiting so many, the downside is that it costs you more too. I suspect the RTW engine is restrictive here, what you could do with is something similar to traders in MTW2 whereby you can only recruit a set number depending on your buildings. Maybe RS2 balances this better.

    just edit the "descr_strat" file.

    found in Program Files, the CA, R-TW, data, world, maps, campaign, imperial_campaign

    it's pretty self-explanatory from then on, and remember to back up any files you edit.
