    Default Which mod to download?

    Hello Invasio Barbarorum team,
I´m interested in trying some mods for BI. But I am overstrained with the many options here. So what are the difference and the similarities of all these mods? Are they using e.g. all the same campaign map only with different starting dates and different starting territories for the factions?
And some mods offer three campaigns (starting dates) at once. How is this possible, can I select them all in the main menu or must I copy / edit some files to play another one?

Well, since they're all modfoldered and very easy to install, I say the best way to find out is simply to try them out.

That does eat up memory though. What exactly are you looking for in your game? I mean, do you want to rebuild a dying empire, stop it dying in the first place, or what?
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
What have the Romans ever done for us?? apart from better sanitation and medicine and education and irrigation and public health and roads and a freshwater system and baths and public order... what have the Romans done for us?
    Some of my favourite quotes:
"Your god has yet to prove himself more merciful than his predecessors" ~ Hypatia, as represented in the film 'Agora'
"If you choose to do nothing, they will continue to do this again and again, until there is no-one left in the city, no people for this governement to govern"
~ Hypatia, as represented in the film 'Agora'

Well, you don't have to install them all at the same time, you know...

    @ Xerrop

You can also read the descriptions of the different mods, check their presentations and feedback, and find out which one you want to try out first. There's a whole lot of information in the forums.

I played the basic Invasio Barbarorum mod a year ago. That could be the one to start off with.

At the moment I'm playing RIO's which is proving to be very interesting. That one has a script set in the 460's AD. The other script which shows on the menu as the "Provincial Campaign" starts in the 430's. That requires ediit/ changing the 4yt script file for that one.

Rio's mod uses a large map. The provincial campaign starts with the bankrupt WRE (if you choose that Faction). It's scripted to follow history, so you start off in conflict with the Vandals. The Visigoths a little later. You need to build up finances before all hell brakes loose later on with the Franks and the Huns.

Unfortunately Rio's mod crashes at the start of almost every second battle. So remember to save game before battle. But Unfortunately that don't work for end turns if you have more one barbarian attack. I had to resort to cheats for that.

Go to the Flagellum Dei Forum, and Read the bug thread. It will tell you how to fix that. Try to DL the Assimilation and soundmod patches for BRG III. It may fix your problem.

Had not much time lately (busy at work) so please excuse my late reply.
Well basically I´m searching my first mod enhancing vanilla BI as Europa Barbarorum did with Rome. Means detailed and historical accurate depicted factions, provinces, units and starting positions and many detailed ingame information/texts about this fascinating era. Furthermore I´m interested in playing the Sassanids so a map including all the area to the Indus and maybe some asian factions would be great. Maybe high recruitment and upkeep costs wouldn´t be bad also. I preferred the fewer stacks of EB compared to RS or SPQR (as much as it is possible with the WRE being invaded by all those barbarians in the BI timeframe).

From looking on the eras I would prefer the crisis of the 3rd century with the Gallic and Palmyrian Empire, means the Restitutor Orbis mod. Unfortunatly it isn´t finished yet. But the other eras are also interesting and look promising. Too bad that there´s so much variety in Late Antiquity - EB, RTR or RS all start in the same years and with same political situation.
So best way will probably be trying them all (as suggested above). Maybe starting with the most finished/stable one. Too many bugs or CTD´s might reduce my future dedication to IB. So any adive what mod to start with?

p.s. would be nice to know the faction in the various mods as well as their starting positions (screenshots of the campaign-minimap maybe?). Or just post a link to the right thread were I can find these informations.

If that's the case, I would suggest that you can download the Julian mod, given that it is the mod that is closest to the third century. It is helpful because it gives you a better idea on how strong the Roman army was during the late Empire, and you have a full Empire so to speak.
