Apologies if anyone has previously brought this idea up but I think that despite taking the 'Medieval' aspect out of MIITW, a science fiction based mod would be absolutely amazing if handled correctly.

Admit it. Eventually you get tired of bows, swords, and horses. While advancing into the gunpowder age gives a nice change (or playing Kingdoms: Americas) it really doesn't ever get much spicier than that. Even all the great mods out there now for MIITW and RTW keep the pretty standard unit sequences relegated to technology prior to any advanced industrial revolution. Melee (spearmen), ranged (archers or muskets), both melee and ranged cavalry (men on horseback), and artillery (siege weapons like catapults or cannons).

I think the game engines of RTW and MIITW are great, giving the right mix of turn-based campaign strategy and real-time battle strategy that no other game has produced such a potent yet sweet tasting combination. But there is so much more potential that I haven't seen tapped.

A futuristic TW campaign could be possible. Extremely challenging, but possible. An example of an adaptation which comes to mind is Warhammer 40K. Hell, even Star Wars would be a good candidate. Yes, I know there are already Warhammer 40K RTS games out there, good ones, too, Sins of a Solar Empire, and the always classic Starcraft (Starcraft II soon), but none of those take the sci-fi genre to use in TW fashion.
