Yeah, I still need to do that post. I'm nearly done with the research, though.

Interestingly, I don't remember anything about snow in that book, and it has no mention of "snow" or "winter" in the index. Your comments about cavalry in the snow make good sense, though. What about giving cavalry a -2 in snow?

From what I can tell, Eastern horses were indeed nearly the same size as destriers (16 hands), with the caveat that only the largest of the ancient horses would have matched the average destrier. Western horses would have been smaller, but let's remember that the Macedonians had horses that were bred with Thracian horses, who were breeding with steppe horses. That said, the Thessalians performed admirably against Easterners, which makes me think that their cavalry had to have been quite effective.

As far as their performance in battle, I'll write up a post on that soon.

    Quinn,

Well, no one was dumb enough to campaign in the winter in areas that got snow! (At least not until the Teutonic Order thought "Hey... winter, Novgorad... let's go!") Looking at the matter holistically, horses *do* fare better than infantry in winter mobility, but they still suffer. But since the advantage of cavalry *is* its mobility, they suffer relatively more in terms of their usefulness in combat.

Heh, true. We can't stop people from winter campaigning, but we do at least make it harder.

Even if that was to be the case (which has issues already - even with just three species, cross-breeding over that geographical area is going to dilute the best attributes of each by a considerable margin unless done extremely carefully for a prolonged period of time) - the Thessalians are not typical western cavalry

I'll make a note of the further cavalry penalty whilst in snow none-the-less because it is sound.

I have literally no idea mate. Though it would be awesome to get a bit of metal going whilst playing, particularly in the intense battles.

Why not just turn off the music in-game, and run your normal music playing application in the background? Most take up very few system resources.

because i use Limewire as i have over 400 songs in my Limewire library, and well Limewire after a while tends to lag my computer, couple that with me playing ExRM for a long time, and i have some seriously annoying lag

@carados well i found the same technique on total heavn, but my music is still not playing.

here's something that you might be able to help me, or quin. when i went into the ExRM folder i found the descr_music_strat file but i didn't find the sounds folder, where is it?

i went into my rtr and FOE folder and they all had a folder called sounds, but on yours.. its not there!
As i recall the descr_music text file is just a recall type file where the instructions on what music to use for events in-game are located, but not the actual music, the music has to be in a folder, so following that logic shouldn't there be a folder in the ExRM that contains the actual music files that you are telling the computer to look up and play?

It'll probably be in the RTW folder then, try it with your vanilla folders and see if that works.

I want to say that I think Pompey tried an elephant drawn chariot for a Triumph, but I read it in one of the "Masters of Rome" books so it may not actually have happened

Read something similar in another book. According to the tale, Pompey ended up looking like a fool when they couldn't fit the elephant through the gates.

so what is the range of this penalties/bonuses?

I mean, what does -8 would mean? or -4, and so on?

    That's a good question. I forgot
Did I post a link with the information? If I did then the tutorial might give an explanation for whether it is attack or defence that is penalised.

The range for penalties and bonuses is a linear scale from -8 to +8, going through 0. Each step affects either attack/defence by one point. Therefore, a unit with -8 for woods would fight with a -8 modifier to their attack/defence characteristic should they find themselves fighting in woodland.
