Hello guys,
does anyone have any advises to good books on Napoleonic Warfare?
And I do not mean the Napoleonic wars, but the warfare and or the militaries. Things like standards, procedures, rules, customs, etc...
And thanks![]()

Oh certainly going to add it to the list of books to get. Thanks
If there are any other recommendations, please post away !
The Campaigns of Napoleon (David Chandler). Basically covers the whole shabangabang and is considered by many to be the "definitive" history of Napoleonic Wars, but is really long (over 1,000 pages long). Is kind of old and thus some of the numbers given at battles are sometimes a little off, but it is not that huge of a deal.
Moscow, 1812. The first book I read on the Napoleonic Wars, really is very good. Covers the invasion of Russia and gives you a great idea of the struggles of campaigning and what went wrong. Explains the importance of horses very well.
Napoleon and the Hundred Days. Loved the outline of the Coalition wars at the beginning, covers a lot of the stuff about Hundred Days that is skipped, doesn't cover Waterloo in too much detail
Swords Around a Throne. Hasn't arrived from Amazon yet, but it basically covers everything about the French army from what they ate the day before Austerlitz to how long their stride was in step on the mach, reviews say it can get a bit boring and that there are some factual errors on battles. But honestly almost every book has factual errors when you look hard enough.
Napoleon's War. Deals more with the foreign relations and politcal of Napoleon than the military side (I would get familiar with the military side first), I am currently only 40 pages in so that is about all I can speak to on the book.

Forget the Cod this man needs a Sturgeon!
I've got one on the French which is amazingly detailed; I think it's out of print, though, but it's worth a look: L'armée de Napoléon, organization et vie quotidienne, Alain Pigeard, Tallandier. It's got everything from army structure corps disposition, a dictionary of French napoleonic army slang, pay rates for all ranks... just about everything you can imagine, actually. It's a great book.
If you're going to link to etexts, make sure they're of publications which are in the public domain. Rapidshare and other file hosters is not how such publications are usually made available, so please don't post such links.
Thanks guys for your great advises. I wish I had the time to read all of those, but hopefully I'll read a couple!
If there are any more advises, please do tell
That sounds like the kind of book Im looking for. Along with Swords around a Throne mentioned by Tiberius Tosi. Certainly going to look into the two books, but is this French book available in English?
Oh that is very sad. Unfortunate indeed. I'm not sure what questions to ask about it though.
Do you happen to know a similar book that is available in English?
That would be great
You know I have been looking at this book actually. Found it on amazon and added it to my wish list![]()
http://www.ospreypublishing.com/stor..._9781846034701 It's a bit expensive but it's basically all of the Osprey books on Napoleonic Era armies packed into one book. Very detailed, with some gorgeous pics.
Bitter is the wind tonight,
it stirs up the white-waved sea.
I do not fear the coursing of the Irish sea
by the fierce warriors of Lothlind.
