grenzers shouldn't need machined rifling
topic ^
sorry to keep making threads like this, but i mean seriously , it says in the unit description they use a double barrelled musket right ?
OR, maybe if their muskets are indeed rifled .... then they should have 125 range like all riflemen ... agree? i like the latter , it makes up for austria's lack of 125 range infantry , especially for multiplayer balance . they will probably have to take a decrease in reload speed as compared to now , which is logical in any case , as loading 2 barrels takes longer than one

Re: grenzers shouldn't need machined rifling
My limited understanding of the rifle they used was that it had one rifled barrel for accuracy and a smooth barrel for faster shooting ... so how they should model that in this game might be difficult ... I would suggest in between, greater range then musket but not as great as a regular rifle ... and the reload speed faster then a rifle but longer then a musket.

I think if one wants to they can find a hundred things wrong with ETW (and i daresay NTW) that aren`t even close to historical realism, authenticity or accuracy with 18th century warfare. Heck, I`ve only read one historical book on 18th century warfare and I found a dozen things wrong. I even saw things wrong using just common logical sense, you don`t even need to know much history!
I think CA\SEGA had no real intention to follow 18th century realism except possibly in how the game looks and animates and that`s about it.

Re: grenzers shouldn't need machined rifling
Most commercial games will never strive for realism, that job is usually left to the hardcore modders. However, I will say that in Empire and Napoleon's case, some more accurate ballistics on the weapons went a long way to improving the game play. I play my own personal modified version of Empire with nothing more than tighter formations and more accurately calculated ballistics, including proper muzzle velocities, ranges, and accuracy ratings for all soldiers, and it greatly improves the games tactical feel. It also make such tactics as Columns more useful, because they serve the same purpose they did all those years ago.
So in these games sake, I think a bit more realism on the ballistics and formations of the units would have been well warranted, but in Rome, Medieval, and other Total War Games, I don't see the necessity for it. Rome was near perfect for me, it was simple and fun, that's what I wanted from it. Medieval was the same way. The age of musketry is a hard era to make a game out of, even in this format, and they did an okay job, but the ballistics were way off.

Re: grenzers shouldn't need machined rifling
RTW needed mods for me to be really fun ... RTR & EB ... they made the game great. MTWII I never got to play much because my computer was to stupid for it ... when I get tired of ETW and NTW I will roll back to it ... and try some mods at some point for it. I have to say so far I have not much need for mods in ETW or NTW they have felt pretty good ... but even putting in a mod seems to be so complicated ... I cannot even find where these games are due to being buried among the steam files.
Back to topic ... grenzers should available sooner to Austria as they get no light infantry until very late in the game ... and the one unit they do have is really bad, this one unit where depite the red cape I simply cannot make heroes of them! Also, wasn't Austria at the cutting edge in Europe in the development of light infantry tactics?
