Default Damn Blue Screen! Please Help!

I recently encountered the blue screen on my PC. I left it on for about 30-40 minutes downloading a video game demo though Steam. I went to the living room to watch a movie my parents were watching, when i came back i saw the screen. It's the first time i ever got it. I pressed the reset button but then the PC turned off and back on again but then after 2-4 seconds it turned off again, then back on, then off then on, the off, then on and it keeps doing it. It doesn't boot. I don't know what is wrong with it please help. I tried touble shooting by removing hardware and tying it on again. It's not my video card or RAM. Weird thing is the PC turns on, then off then on then off again by itself and it will continue doing that unless i tun the power switch on the PSU. Please help someone. This has never happened to me befoe.

there are a few things that could go wrong here.

    psu

    memory

    motherboard

    processor

    gpu

    hd

    so to the point

clean the dust out and try every component in another case to see if its alright

That's basically every component in a computer lol

I would say that trying all the parts in another computer would be the way to go. That's how I diagnose PC problems. I swap one part at a time until the computer doesn't work and then I know which part is the problem.

Unless the computer is very similar you can't swap the motherboard and CPU.

I'm betting the motherboard is at fault based on his description, the GPU or HDD wouldn't keep the motherboard from posting, if the PSU was bad it wouldn't try to power up at all (unless the voltages suddenly went haywire) He moved the RAM around, RAM shouldn't keep the system from posting, the CPU going bad would be very unlikely however possible.

Disable automatic reboot in BIOS, which you access by pressing DELETE or whatever the designated key is. So then you can write down and lookup the error code the blue screen provides.

But seeing as you have removed hardware for troubleshoot, it looks like a tough break.

I don't know if this helps in this case but he could also try removing the CMOS battery. And he could try putting the RAM in other RAM slots. Before messing with the CPU and other components.

If you would read his post you would know he can't get that far, his system powers off immediately.

Good idea. I forgot to mention that

Many times a CMOS reset can fix things like this.

I didn't know if it was blue screen once or not.
    Wasn't clear enough.

I have had personally a problem where it would restart after a few seconds, and with a blue screen that you can't read because of the instant shutdown.

As he isn't experiencing the issue, we will leave it at that.

Thanks for the replies guys. So far i tested my HDD, GPU and RAM and they all work fine. I don't think it's my PSU since it is still able to power on, although it shuts off after 2-4 secs. I don't have another PC with the same socket type for my i7 so i can't test my CPU. I haven't tried my motherboard yet but one thing I noticed is that the little LEDs in the motherboard do turn on and every component that has a fan that is plugged into the motherboard turns on fine for those few secs before it turns by itself off. I'm gonna try to remove the CMOS battery to see if that does anything, hopefully it does. I can't get to BIOS, my computer literally turns on then after 2-4 secs it turns off by itself, i don't see anything on my monitor, and it will keep doing that by itself unless i manually turn it off by the turning off the switch on the PSU.

Since that didn't work I would 2nd what Mr MM says and swap out the PSU, generally if it's a ram, CPU or connection fault your normally greated with a series of coded bleeps but since you not getting these it does point to a faulty 12v rail in your PSU.

Nothing so far, CMOS battery didn't work. I'm gonna test my motherboard and CPU since I've tested everything but both. One must have been faulty since it's only been a month at maximum since I put my rig together. Damn it

    its your psu.
test the psu in another machine, the easiest part to do these swap tests.

Well, my PSU, i don't what is up with it but it doesn't work...at all anymore I took the PSU from my parent's PC just so I can try it out on the motherboard and a stick of RAM and well it works, but my old PSU won't even power on anymore.

    What brand was the PSU?

I still don't see how the PSU would have made your system bluescreen yet continue powering it until you shut it off.

Brand wasn't so good, as far as i know I've never used it before, Coolmax. Really stupid of me to settle for it instead of going with a brand I used before so I blame myself. I don't know either but today it stopped working completly, the PSU, i tried plugging it into another PC as Mr MM said and it wouldn't turn on at all, i then tried it on my own PC and it wouldn't turn on either. I don't know if it was the PSU or if it just happened to die when I tried it but every components seems to work fine.

Ouch, Coolmax is one of the cheapest PSU companies out there, they have high fail rates so this is no surprise.

I have always bought expensive PSU's from good brands. It ends up being cheaper in the long run.

Corsair is my favorite brand for PSU's as they have the best warranty and support to go along with their high-quality components, OCZ and Antec are also good.

for a replace I would avoid the antecs since the 12+ rails amperage is pretty low, and it won´t power your gpus to the right level (meaning anything above 150-20a). I would settle for the corsair 650 or lower maybe a 550w
