Default NVIDIA GTX 470 and NAPOLEON: TOTAL WAR

    Hi.

I did lots of research around my area to find a GTX 400 series card and by completely ridiculous luck ONE of the best buys had ONE GTX 470, and it was listed as having been DELETED from the sales roster at Best Buy. It was also listed as "out of stock/backordered" at this best buy and yet they found one in the inventory. I called three times to confirm this and alas apparently it is real!

This jubilation aside, has anyone tried N:TW with the gtx 470? I currently have a gtx 260 and I have about 400 men per unit, and it lags quite a bit (IT ALSO CRASHES EVERY *SECOND* BATTLE, NEVER ON FIRST, any suggestions?)

Hopefully this new card will solve all these problems and allow me to have epic battles without having to restart my game to play a new one.

NOTE: I WILL GO ON JUSTIN.TV to SHOWCASE the PERFORMANCE of the gtx 470 on NAPOLEON: TOTAL WAR, details to follow TONIGHT.

If you list all the components on your system (ie, processor, PSU, RAM, etc.) than that will help in determining the performance you can expect. Here's my specs and I'm able to do battles of up to 11,000-12,000 men depending on the map and how many units I'm viewing on the screen at a time. I typically have to stay zoomed out at the beginning of a battle, but as it progresses and the units thin out, I can zoom in.

    - MSI M/B K9A2CF- F AMD 790X
    - AMD Phenom 9500 Quad-Core 2.2 GHz processor
    - 4GB RAM
    - Seagate Barracuda 250GB Sata HD (7200 rpm)
    - DVDRW/CDRW drive
    - Corsair 650TX 650W ATX12V
    - ATI MSI Radeon 5770 HD video card
    - Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
    - Dell 22" monitor (max res 1680 x 1050)

You could also go into graphics options and play with the settings there to find a formula that works for you in balancing performance and visual aesthetics. You might find some additional help if you post this in the Basement.

Sorry about not going on Justin TV, but I have results:

Ultra settings anti-aliasing, hardward shadows and SSAO OFF, with 1680 by 1050 resolution I have no lag except processor with 18k units on screen with the GTX 470.

I bought a GTX 470 and i tested with like 5 thousand man (i forgot to change the unit size to huge) with Ultra,1680x1050, hardware shadows, SSAO off and 4xaa and i got more than 60 fps ( i couldn't see the exact number because vsync was turned on and it caps the fps at 60) and the gtx 470 is a nice card.. runs every game very well crysis with 30 fps+ metro 2033 too, far cry 2 with maximum settings and 8xaa at almost 100 fps... it will definately solve your problem with epic battles.. i'll test one right now...

ive tried 5870 xfire and ill tell you it isnt much better than 1 x 5870, infact xfire is glitchy with 5870xfire, tried various ati drivers aswell including the 10.4

about the only thing i can do with the extra 5870 is run 8xaa @ 1920x1080, and it isnt noticeable anyway above4x

with 1 x 5870 i run ultra effects with no ssao, and no hardware shadows, and 2xAA and it has good fps consistently above 25, and up to about 65.

really impressed with xfire 5870's and nap total war. in fact all games.

Ok heres the scoop for me I just did a NTW battle 17k troops 4vs4 computer battle includeing me. Well there was a bit of lagg but nothing I couldnt handle I have the settings maxed out full settings everything. My pc specs 470 gtx my cpu is the E8400 core duo 3.0 ghz 4gigs of ram 600 gigs of storage space =P hehe and windows 7. When I had windows vista this game did not want to work but with windows 7 works like a charm!! =). And to to add to all the fun I won the battle =PPP. truely if I had settings at low or med id could definitly manage a 30k battle easily. And the GPU didnt go over 80C. Now if I had 2 470s and some more ram I bet I could max out a 20k to 30k battle with less or no lagg!!! Im planning on SLI soon!!
Total War is the only massive war game that has yet to be Surpassed keep up the good work CA don't let us down!!!!
