I just bought RTW again (mainly for Roma Surrectum II) - the White Label edition, but it doesn't want to work. I have tried all kinds of compatibility settings, restarting the PC and so on, but no joy. I have patched up to v1.5.

If I try with a compatibility setting, it just displays a 'Rome Total War has stopped working' message. If I start it normally, it gets to the intro video, and then drops back to the desktop. If I press alt-tab, it returns to the game, loads to the menu, and then keeps dropping back to desktop, but not a CTD, it just goes back to the desktop as though you'd pressed alt-tab. Actually, it only got that far once - now, it usually just goes back to the desktop and refuses to load it at all. Once, it loaded it fine, but the game was stuffed into a little tiny window in the corner of the screen(!)

Has anyone managed to get this edition working with Win 7 64bit? If so, please help!

    Thanks in advance.

Edit: It's annoying - I used to have Rome Total War - the full price version, but I sold it (yes, I know - I deserve Crucifixion). Now, I have a new rule: unless a superior version of a particular TW game comes out, no selling TW games! And I'm never touching these White Label things again - they're nothing but trouble!

I tried running the game through XP, but my mouse doesn't want to work under XP now.

Hmmm... ten views and no replies. Either the wrong people have looked at this thread, or I am screwed and will have to bring the game back.

Where did you install your RTW?
Was you able to run RTW vanilla before installing the mod?

I haven't used any mods at all. I installed it on my F:\ Drive (that's the biggest one and where all my games go). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, testing with no patches, with v1.1 only, then with v1.3 and then with v1.5. No joy. The game seems to load, but then just keeps dropping back to desktop (best case scenario - otherwise, it just doesn't load at all). Compatibility modes didn't help and I can't even test it under Win XP because my mouse isn't working with that for some reason.

I really hope this can be sorted out - Roma Surrectum II looks absolutely amazing!

Sorry I have no idea then. I play the gold version on my w7 64 without any problems.

I bet it's the sodding White Label edition - I had issues with Kingdoms as well. Should be called 'Black Label'.

Could you please try to disable the video?
I mean the loading video and the menu video, with the -nm.

Worth a try. How exactly do I do that?

It's working in XP now - my mouse returned to life - I was pretty sure it would work under XP and that's the exact reason why I kept XP on the system - for situations like this. It's not a perfect solution, because I don't like using XP, but it's certainly better than nothing. Maybe your idea will get it working on Win 7? I don't know how to do it though, so I need a step by step.

Rome is definitely the best TW game ever - there's just something that looks so right about seeing Roman soldiers on the battlefield and Roma Surrectum II will complete the job nicely.

Just to make absolutely sure you didn't install it to program files. If you did that might be the problem.

Do you know how to add a show_err, by adding it at the end of the target, in a shortcut?
You do the same, except you add -nm.

    Thanks.

Edit: Tried that, didn't work. At least it's playing ok in XP now, but it's a bit of a pain to have to do that. Still, that's why XP was retained on the system.
