Default Future of Laptops - 2011

    hey guys

well since im hoping to get a top notch laptop next year, i would like to keep track of the world of laptops, and most of all, what they're going to bring us next year

so, what can we expect for next years laptops..

and plz, dont say ''more power, more efficiency, "more better" everyting".. , there should be expectations or whatever about what companies are developing and so

I would expect LED screens to become more popular and we should see some competition coming in from AMD for budget laptop CPU's (if not latter this year) with ultra low voltage just like the ones Intel have recently released. What I'm not expecting which is pretty much a given is any great improvements in battery technology which has been basically static for the past 10 years.

If for some reason I got hit in head and had a brain seizure and put some cash down on laptop in 2011 I wouldn't want anything that didn't have USB3, I'm a big fan of portable hard drives and transfer speed is has always been an issue with USB 2.

Freddie, I'm sure we all know that laptops will never be nearly as powerful as a desktop can be unless you put about three times the money into it, but sometimes there just isn't room for desktops.

I will be buying a laptop that can run games, not because I want to, but because I won't be in a situation where a huge desktop is feasible, but I still want to play games.

I'm also undecided as to whether I should invest in one now, or wait till next year when I would really need it and see what has changed... probably the latter, so I'm with the OP in terms of answers.

If you don't need one now then why would you even be considering it? It reminds of people who bought the PS3 when it first came and they backed up their purchase by saying they were investing into future development that just doesn't make any sense just buy the thing when you need it.

If you want to save space by not having a desktop PC there are alternatives such as buying/building a shuttle based PC.

let me guess, you're going to university?

well [hopefuly] i'll get into university next year (not the next year, but after the next year is finished) so since im a big fan of gaming, and my university will definitly not be in my home town, i'll need a portable pc for school projects and normal stuff (movies, music, etc) and also for gaming, since it's im a big fan

so having a desktop isnt feasable in my situation, and thus i would like to know what can we expect in the future of laptops

Exactly! I can't fit a desktop into a small Halls of Residence room (mostly just the size of a very small bedroom).

Its the same deal. I love gaming and especially PC gaming so I don't want to have to lose it.

So yeah, now that we know why Swagger and I are asking this, I think the whole "don't get laptops" debate is over.

There is no debate. Fact is a gaming laptop is an incredible waste of money, they don't last as long as a desktop, their batteries give minimal use when gaming, they cannot properly cool everything, and they cannot be upgraded (save for RAM).

    Get one if you want.

I personally have £1,800 set aside that I can spend on any luxury item I want. Whether part or all of that goes to a laptop is another question.

Ugh, you know what I meant. What I mean is, we all know fine well about gaming laptops. Its constantly talked about and I think people who consider getting them are already aware of their limitations.

What I'm saying is, now that we know there is no alternative for out situations - can the question just be answered? Freddie provided a good one further up.

Ditto on the USB 3.0 if you intent to transfer or back up your files. Other than that there isn't much that can be guessed or said about what would be a good laptop 1 year from now.

That is the cliche of those interested in gaming laptops right there.

It's one of the better gaming laptops I've seen but the price....

OMFG it only costs around £950! That's about £700 cheaper than another one I saw that looked almost the same.

All I need now is a tech guy to confirm whether its a good laptop for games (as far as they go) and its mine

Have some rep for finding it, Swagger.

I feel quite bad. I just expressed joy at the fact that laptop was just £950, then ChaobSiroc jumps in and gets upset cause he can't afford it... that makes me feel bad and spoilt

Excuse me, I built a computer last year for $3,000 US (peripherals included) which is equal to 2,220 Euros.

Some of my computer pics are in my profile if you care to look.
