I am a big Peter Heather fan if thats the right way to desribe it ? Anyway I think I said it elsewhere too , but his most recent book is Par Excellence I recomend it http://www.amazon.co.uk/Empires-Barb.../dp/0333989759
The Adrian Goldsworthy book starts the narative in the third century, he sees the collaspse starting there. Read them you'll see
I've read about heathers point of view on the collapse. I agree with them completely.

Peter Heather's book is fantastic. I read it back several years ago and I recall that it really sparked my interest in Late Antiquity; his account of the Roman presence gradually evolving and decaying in Noricum is very insightful.

I must confess that I prefer Adrian G solely based on the fact that I find him more physically attractive than Peter Heather. Adrian has that flamboyant and nonchalant charm of a seasoned gentleman, while Peter Heather's nerdish looks reveals the fact that he's probably a virgin.
If there was a war going on - who would you follow to certain death? A 50 year old-virgin or a handsome and strong man with a full head of hair? Yes, that's what I thought.

Last time I checked there were women in the military.
Also, that is true, Alexander the great was just a famous Homosexual. Why do you think their called the "companion" cavalry. Back on topic though.
I will be getting heather's book wednesday. It's being ordered from the primary warehouse or something.
BTW last time I checked Heather was MARRIED.
