Basically. My assassins SUCK. And i dont want to cheat to get there traits up.
I've tryed destorying buildings. Does'nt work.
Attempted killing captains?
They either Get killed. Or Miss the target. ( So Annoying. )
Any tips?

Don't use them. They're not very lotr-ish anyway.
Or try to get an assassin's guild but I think only Rhun and Harad have them (though I'm probably wrong). Other than that you can only spam them and hope one of them gets enough kills to rise his agent skill to a decent level.
I've found destroying buildings to be pretty unreliable for raising skill. Killing captains is the best - find targets with 50-80% chance. Any less and you'll probably miss or die, and if it's too high you won't get a skill raise. Most importantly (and some might consider this cheating) save before you make an assassination attempt. If you fail, reload and go after something else or wait a turn.
PS: Who has assassins in this mod? I know I've seen Isengard assassins running around - do all the evil factions have them?
The missions are remnants of generic vanilla missions, no need to feel compelled by them but I can see how 4 FGs could be appealing.
As others have said all you can do is practice on captains. I think captains with smaller armies are easier to kill, not sure though. You need to "fish" around.
I Know exactly why they wanted me to kill this general
FOUR Full stacks of Harad's men just entered Gondor's Realm.
Stupid peopleJUst as i hold Mordor off. And Attempt to counter attack Harad all back fires.
Time For Plan B.
- Get Two full stacks onto a ship and Make for Harad's costal city. Take one city. Put two stacks there. And constently bring in Reinforcements.
Harad's Naval for has been reduced to nothing.
( I Have 4 full stakcs of naval forces)
Time to train a few assassins i think.![]()
How in God's name do you afford the upkeep on 4 stacks of naval forces?
when u recruit assassin, at first try to kill only captains and low level diplomats
then u get high traits and u will have high percentage to kill generals
Apparently (Royal Military Academy) the Elves are the only factions without assassins. Presumably they don't stoop to such crudeness. I didn't check them all but it seems that only (and all) the Melkor boys get Assassins Guilds.
EDIT: that site is for 1.3. 1.4 might be different.

Oh Gondor got Assassins... creepy little §$%$$.
I remember well and will never forget a campaign in 1.3 when i got the witchking and another nazgul standing for 4 turns on the bridge between WO and EO, waiting for 2 units of catapults...
I didnt get it when the other nazgul dies, next round the witchking was dead as well.
Good to know that at least the AI dont got problems with sucessful assassinations.
Last week i lost 3 nazguls in my mordor-campaign when i let my armys invade western Gondor after conquer minas tirith to the daggers of assassins.
Never enter gondorian lands without an Assassin in the army...
cattish folks... but what do you expect of men...

in early TATW times i used assassins too but not anymore for two reasons.
like you said the chance of a successful assassination is very low (it became
even lower in the latest TATW version where the chance was decreased again).
and the second thing is that as soon as you recruited your first assassin you
get one new assassination mission after the other. this really is a pain, since
in the most cases you far away from your assassination target anyhow and
even if you reach it the chance of being successful is very low again.
so dont use them. (i really ask myself why they are still part of TATW - at least
for the good factions they could be removed - as they are for the elves already.)

Using them decreases your global diplomatic standing too, I hear.
yeah i think for harad, rhun and the orcish factions assassins are okay
since they are evil. muhahah. and of course if you play an evil faction
you maybe want to be as evil as possible, what you can achieve by
assassinations too. because after a certain amount of assassination
(and assassination attempts) the faction leader gets traits for that.
(cowardness, fear, cruelty ...)

Well, then its not that big step to take the few seconds to "train" the assassins with the console i quess![]()

The assassins are somewhat useless in the game, and somewhat out of character with the books. After my first game as Dale I've completely given up recruiting them - waste of money. I think the mod authors should either make them more useful (something like a bigger observation radius so they can at least do some useful spying) or delete them.
