Default A Fellow Friend Needs Opinions

OK so my friend wants to upgrade his PC and since he knows nothing about i'll be doing it . We got the motherboard (standard ATX) and he's gonna go out and buy a monster (ATI 5970) IF he can even find one in stock, lucky bum so now he's looking for a case. Since he has a max of $200 US dollars then i suggested either the ATCS 840 or Raven RV01(couldn't think of any other at the moment) since i searched a bit online and they both seem to fit a 5970 (right?), and he doesn't want a military style one (AKA HAF, etc). Right now he is siding on the Raven, because of it's looks, but one thing is I'm not sure if he should get that one since i heard the 5970 can get pretty hot and the case doesn't seem to have as good as cooling as the ATCS 840. He is not gonna go water cooling at all (At least that i know of), other than CPU (H50 of course), in case he decides to go water cooling is the case capable of housing a water cooling system kit? cause i know nothing of water kits.

    Raven

    Pros:

    - Great cooling potential
    - Innovative layout
    - Distinctive styling
    - Sliding front door with auto close
    - Hot Swap Bay included

    Cons:

    - Only 1 Hot Swap Bay included
    - Only 2 USB ports on front, no e-SATA
    - Not a tool-less installation process (except for 5.25 bays)
    - VGA to DVI adapters can not be used
    - Extreme Chassis deserve extreme accessories (Only two cable ties???)
    - Looks not for everyone (or even most people)
    - Way too much plastic
    - Price
    - First Generation of a good idea but w/ 1st Gen quirks

Well from these benchmarks the Raven seems to have to best cooling.

and pre-drilled access for water-cooling kit.

Wow, i would have thought that with those 230mm fans the ATCS would have cooled better, are those the stock fans that are being used?

From the looks of it they used the stock fans.

That bottom line, compatible with card up to 12 inches, is that correct? or will a 5970 fit there with no problem? 5970 is a 12.5" I believe. Also if I install an H50 and set the fan to exhaust, will it have any heat problems? or should i set it to intake? but then the air would be inside the case instead of being expelled outside. Sorry if I'm bombing you with these questions I've just never worked with a case like this where the motherboard tray has been flipped 90 angles, thanks again for the info.

EDIT: According to the Official SilverStone website, the RV01 and the RV02 both fit 12 inch graphics cards. According to PC Case Gear, they only fit 10.5 inch graphics cards which means that they can JUST squeeze in a GTX295. Not only does PC Case Gear say that but also some reviews state that 10.5 inches is the maximum.
So the Raven RV01 is a no sadly.

But I found another case the CM 590.

It might lack the looks but it has water cooling options.

Yeah I guess you're right, I just googled antec twelve hundred and 5970 and this was the first site I got. But if it fits you will not go around complaining, so it'll probably fit.

He's gonna pick it up tomorrow after he gets out from work from the local CompUSA for $200, not a bad price for it. One thing i had in mind though, am i gonna need long cables or extensions for this case? cause i have seen quite a lot of people saying that they had to get longer and/or extension cables in order for their cables to reach the motherboard.
It depends, if a lot of people complain about cables being to short it might be handy to buy/order some cheap extensions in advance. Since you do not have any big computer stores around.

There is one above that review and about a gazillion underneath that say it fit fine. In a review people will say if the longest graphics card fits or not.
