Maine man gets 2 years for forcing sons to fight

BELFAST, Maine - A Maine man has been sentenced to two years in prison for forcing his 4-year-old son and 6-year-old son to fight each other while he watched.

Twenty-six-year-old Pedro Delgado-Bristol pleaded guilty Tuesday in Waldo County Superior Court to assault and other charges.

The Bangor Daily News says the boys told detectives they were forced to punch, kick and knee each other on Jan. 9 at Delgado-Bristol's Rockport home. The boys also told investigators Delgado-Bristol hit the younger boy with a sandal when the boy refused to fight any more.

The boys' mother saw the injuries and reported the father to authorities.
A judge called Delgado-Bristol's actions "depraved" and barred him from having unsupervised contact with either boy.

Well, one can't make you fight if you don't want to. if the dad started physically abusing them to start the fight, then yes, that it wrong

EDIT;: reread the OP, and yea... he shouldn't have used a shoe on the lad... but other then that, I see no prob with a good fight

The man should of lost custody of his kids, but I don't think the psychological or physical damage of an innocuous fist fight is damaging enough to warrant two years in jail. I've gotten into like 30 fights in my life, of which all but 2-3 were when I was just a kid. None of them traumatized me or affected me in any way, other than an interesting story.

These were his children and he forced them to do it. Hitting one of them when he didn't seem to be giving it his all...

Yes, well, we don't actually know how hard he hit them with his shoe. Ive had my dad throw a shoe at me, did no damage at all. Like a slap on the back of the head. My point is just directly reading this it can be taken to one of two extremes, just an innocuous fight the dad set up which spiraled out of control when the mom over reacted, or a viscous father forcing his Children to utterly destroy one another. I'm more inclined to believe the fight did little physical damage, and wasn't intended to. But really, I'm not going to argue either way, cause I donno.

In all seriousness though, kids fight all the time, but it takes a depraved mind to force your own kids to fight for your amusement and whack them with footwear when they don't want to.

Don't really know or care about his jail sentence, but he shouldn't be allowed to be near the kids anymore, even when he gets out.
