Battle Graphics

I've been looking around and it seem that a lot of eople are having problems similar to mine. I can play the campaign just fine, (video, like in assasination attempts, spying, weddings, etc, are all fine) but whenever I want to play a battle the loading screen pops up, but the loading bar doesn't fill up and my game crashes with the all-too-familiar: Medieval 2: Total War encountered an unspecified error and will now exit. I have Steam, so the game was bought online, so I'm not sure how to access the files or anything. If anyone could help, I'd be very appreciative.

I had that problem some time ago. I think I resolved it by updating drivers, though I'm not sure.

Post your dxdiag. It's usually either drivers or not enough graphics memory.

I was able to play battles well enough before, but then our computer got attacked by this virus. It got taken care of, but one day I opened up Medieval and the textures of the trees were all weird and grainy. And then I found I couldn't play battles! And the graphics were perfectly fine before. It was rather random, but anyways....

Should I post my drivers information? Or all of the System info?

Oh, and it's a Vista. That might make a difference. *shrugs*

There's Sound 1,2,3, and 4. Is there a graphics one? (they all say audio)

No idea what any of that means....again, I'm not sure if that's what you were asking for, but I can go back and get more information if you need it. Thank you very much for your help! ^^

More info is needed - here's how:

DxDiag is easy to run if you have any knowledge of Windows. Go to the "Start" button and in that menu choose "Run Program" option ("Run..." in Vista IIRC). In the pop-up field type "dxdiag" and press enter. This is the DirectX test program - let it finish the test. After the test is finished choose the button toward the bottom labeled "Save All Information..." and save it to your desktop. Next open up this forum and post the results by copying and pasting directly to the forum. Please don't post attachments as they take up more space and time - just copy and paste. Please post ALL info and if you can please wrap it in a spoiler tag to minimize page size.

Can you re-install M2 through the Steam app? It may be that something that the virus did screwed with your game.

Follow irishron's advice in the post above as he has the best answer. Something about your problem makes me think that there is something else at work here. Good luck!

Are these all free software programs, or do they cost money? Just curious, because I'm looking at the sites and can't see if there are prices, but I just want to make sure.

I did try to reinstall MTW II, but it didn't really do anything. *shrugs*

1.) I really know next to nothing about how computers "actually" work (and I really don't know anything about drivers

) so I'm not really sure what I should be lookign for. Where on the site can I get/download 10.3 drivers? I've looked around on the site but its not exactly, user-friendly for a person who has little idea what they are lookign for. XD
2.) Again, not sure exactly what I'm supposed to look for--in this case there are many options and I'm not sure which one I'm supposed to get. Is this one that you mean: http://downloads.guru3d.com/Forcewar...HQL_d2520.html

Parts and programs change over time. The virus may have done other damage.

The dxdiag might give us a clue.

Welcome to the "I didn't delete the geography files after unpacking because I didn't read the ReadMe file" club.

go into the tools\unpacker folder, read the ReadMe file and then delete the files mentioned there.

I have Steam, so it's not technically "installed" on this computer, so I don't have a ReadMe file. It's on the Steam account. That's my particular problem.

I found files under Steamapps. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be looking for though.

So I went to Steamapps, common, medieval ii total war. Should I go to dx setup?

I believe it's more than that, besides those dx drivers are already five tears old.

The XP version: Click Start, click run, type dxdiag, enter.
When the box comes up, click the save all information button on the bottom of it. That will save it as a .txt file to your desktop.

Then just post it here.

The first thing I am goig to do is give you your own thread. The other one is a mess.

You may corde me more than thank me but here it goes.

1. Try the 10.3 drivers from www.amd.com.
2. Update your RealTek HD audio drivers from www.guru3d.com.
3. You have Vista SP2, which is good, but running Windows Update manually and installing all software options will help.
4.Install http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en. You need it.

Now, the bad news. The HD3450 will run this game, even battles, okay, but if you love huge sizes and all the eyecandy, having only 240mb of allocated graphics memory will lag the battle if not crash first.

Try the ones I gave you and let us know if it works for you. Good luck.

We'll do it this way, then.

1. http://downloads.guru3d.com/Realtek-...load-2513.html is for your audio drivers.
2. http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...common-vista64 is for your graphics drivers. I think yours is pcie. If it refuses to install, let me know.
3. http://www.update.microsoft.com/micr....aspx?ln=en-us needs to be run manually by you. Microsoft's autoupdater is a piece of garbage on a good day nad this is not a good day. There will be an option to check for updates on all Microsoft products and check it. For the neophyte, install just the software ones including the optional ones. Runit sa many times as necessary until Microsoft says there are no more updates. It will even get you a more secure and stable computer in the long run.

Go ahead and ask if you can't find something. Computers are a strange breed.

1.) Audio Driver was downloaded sucessfully.

2.) The graphic driver failed to download.

3.) It updated. Making progress, slowly but surely....

What is Driver Fetch, btw? Or rather, what does it do? Does it just check to see what drivers you have and whether they need updates or not?

Don't bother with Driver Fetch - it may work but it costs money....
