    Default Problem with Screen

For some reason, when I reinstalled Rome (was using steam, using disk now), I get two black bars on either side.

This has happened on my steam version too, but editing the preferences file so that the resolutions were 1336x768 fixed the black bar problem.

However, it isn't working now. I've also tried setting the widescreen to true, but that hasn't fixed it either.

...is there a solution to this?

If you change the preferences.txt file make sure the changes stick. Is it read-only? Is it the correct one? If you are using Vista or 7 and have installed the game to the c:\program files (x86) folder (the default folder) then the file will be in the 'virtual store'.

The file isn't read only and I have it set to the modified resolution, however the game is still staying the same.

Also, what and where is this "virtual store" thing you talk about?

    Thanks.

If you are using Vista run %appdata% from the run dialogue box - this will get you to the start of the folder path (you then need to follow it down to the RTW folder). I'd type in what it is on my machine but I am on my laptop which is using XP. There are plenty of topics which the path is show - just do a search for 'virtual store' or 'appdata' (that may be quicker).
