Can you play Campaign online with a friend?

I was wondering if it was possible to play an online campaign mode with a friend over the internet?

I think he means if there's a modification to enable playing online with a friend against each other besides the Multiplayer Custom Battle.

no. they managed to make something half as good called a hotseat, but that is not nearly sufficient. check back in a year and maybe theyve found a way.

It's possible to play the campaign map against each other, or the custom battle mode against each other.
The only difference is if you want to combine the 2, you should always be playing at the same time, for the campaign map thats practicly impossible, certainly if you got an enormous empire and want to build buildings and troops and movement etc. and you can't play the custom battle mode against each other with turns (well it can be but then the game should be very long and very different). It's either OR campaign map and battles vs. AI, or battle without campaignmap.
