    Default Error Starting XGM

    Hey guys,

I used to play XGM with R:TW however I installed BI and Alexander and then re-insallted XGM and selected "run with BI exe" option. It sometimes works, but I occasionally get the error below, it gets fixed when I re-install XGM (5.9.7). But I can't keep doing re-installing it all the time.

Script error in xgm/data/descr_sm_factions.txt, at line 77, column 1

horde_min_units: this feature is not supported.

Any idea what's going on here ?

By the way, I wonder if my old 5.9.7 XGM saves works with BI mode installed ?

The XGM installer creates a version of XGM that works with just one exe. For example, if you select "use BI exe" when you run the installer then the installed version of XGM will *only* work correctly with BI. If you want to play with the Alex exe instead then you need to run the installer again and select "use Alex exe". There's no way around this because there are many differences in the content and arrangement that each exe expects to find in the game files.

You can also kill campaigns by starting them with one exe, and then switching to another exe part way through.

My advice is to pick one exe and stick with that.

I want it to run with BI exe and I installed XGM with BI exe option, after 3-4 re-install somehow it started to work fine, although my old campaign saves were damaged beyond fix, the game minimap was changed, along with some menu graphics, they were look like vanilla stuff, didn't look like XGM, and when I try to capture new settlements I experienced chrashes. Deleted all old saves and started a new one (), I had some chrashes and freezes but when I start the game and reload from the last save they don't repeat the issues, so it's playable, annoying to chrash in the middle of a winning battle, but think I can live with that.

I used to have no chrashes, freezes, error whatsoever before I installed BI and Alex. Maybe I should uninstall and re-install all of them once again and it may clear things up a bit ?

It's possible that you were starting the game up with a shortcut that pointed to the wrong exe. The installer makes a shortcut pointing to the right exe, but if you somehow wound up using an old shortcut then you might get the wrong exe.

Re-installing everything is probably a good idea. The official install procedure is RTW > BI > Alex (with no patching because the BI and Alex installers should do that automatically). If your game was already patched to 1.5 when you installed BI then that might have caused problems. According to CA it's not a good idea to go from 1.5 (fully patched RTW) to 1.6 (fully patched BI).

Yes it was already patched to 1.5, that seems to be the source of the problem, I'll install them again. Thanks, I'll get back to this thread once I do so and test it.
