Default Realistic unit appearance mod for vanilla?

    Dear TW fans,

I very recently go into RTW, after discarding the game for many years. I took the time to learn the battlefield controls and must say I'm now completely hooked beyond redemption.

I've been browsing this forum and I'm eager to try out such grand mods as Europa Barbarorum or Rome Total Realism (will probably wait for VII to be released).

In the meantime, a couple of questions for you.

    1) Is it worth it to finish my first vanilla game? I'm currently in 200BC, still pretty far away from the Marian Reforms, I reckon. I've already conquered quite a few provinces (most of Gaul and Macedon) and I'm reaching a point in the game where I'm not sure whether I should or shouldn't carry on to witness the rather questionable 'civil war' scenario. I'm playing on Medium/Medium with Normal unit scale.

    2) If I do carry on with this game, is there a mod out there that makes the vanilla units look more realistic without changing the vanilla rules? I've seen screenshots of the Europa Barbarorum units, which look amazing compared to this all-red silliness. Alternatively, I could quit now and install EB.

There might be a mod that will just change vanilla units however, I don't know if you'll be able to continue your campaign. If you plan on starting a new campaign I wouldn't recommend EB as your first mod. As all the script will make you turn your head in surprise and anger various times. Atleast that happened to me the first time. May I recommend Darth Mod it increases AI adds for vainilla campaigns and changes a great quantity of units. Have a look: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=56368.

Hello Decimator and thanks for your advice!

Darth Mod indeed seems to be exactly what I'm looking for! Will give it a whirl tonight.

I've just installed DarthMod and I must say I'm enjoying it a lot. It'll allow me to finish the game at least once in vanilla before switching to one of those scripted total conversions.

Bonus style points for having advice read to you by Darth Vader.

    Thanks again for the tip!

Extended Greek Mod (XGM) also has very good unit models, and realistic in many ways. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a mod, and to your is it worth it vanilla question, meh, I quit playing it for years now, mods way better, and XGM rocks if you ask me. But don't let me mislead you, there are many other qualified mods out there, just check their forums, screenshots, read comments or install and see for yourself for better, choose the one that suits you.
