Default =>Suggestions to formal debate and definement of rules

Having two teams in debates on such subjects will lead nowhere. Unless it's two "schools of thought" that have relative opinions, but in a different way. These artificial debates, will not work since most of the topics are too general (communism vs capitalism as an example). Unless you get a team of pro-capitalists and a team of pro-communists, which will lack the "in-between" opinions and will be a war of value more than anything else, rather than a debate using rational arguments.

I suggest creating a sub forum for this formal debate. Someone ask. We don't need to discuss about a debate in a forum about politics.

The goal is not to neccessarily convert your opponents, but to make them see your point of view, as well as showing others the pros and cons of each. Each debate will be voted on, to see who the winner is, so if a side uses rational arguments, they will have a better chance than a team who doesn't.

No one will be influenced by his prior opinion, of course. Everyone will make up his mind afresh right here and then. Yeah ...

One other thing. You have 2 teams, Liberals and conservatives. Which are right wing, and even more right wing.

    No left.

Well, if I, Belisarius, the Black Prince, and you all agree on something, I really don't think there can be any further discussion.

Originally, yes, liberalism was a left left ideology. But then people realised that it is more of a right wing view. Left wing would be interventionism, socialism and ultimately communism.

How about forget left and right, divide it into pro and anti the subject.

Example Pro Abortion or Anti Abortion.

I said this in another board. I'm tired of these god damn "crossfire" style debates. They serve nothing and no team will convince anyone of anything, its literally impossible.

Also where is the Moderate team? They seem to be missing? Most people aren't extremists you know....
