    Default Help me make Hannibal

    Hello all,

I am in the middle of a Carthage campaign with VH battles. I have nearly conquered all of Spain, while Rome has taken Italy and is working on Sicily. I want to make one of my young generals really awesome and use that general to invade Italy a la Hannibal. He would obviously need to be a ten star general, but I also want him to have morale boosting trains (since the Romans out do me there). Do you have any suggestions for traits and ancillaries? Is there a thorough list somewhere? What would you include in your ideal general? Thanks in advance!

A chirugeon/doctor is one of the most important ancillaries to have in a fighting general imo. It helps to keep your losses a bit lower.

Mostly Command & Influence Ancillaries. Priest/Priesteses and Philosophers work well too.

I would like to make my Hannibal character fairly historically accurate. So, I was thinking of giving him the Roman Turncoat ancillary, the Mercenary Captain ancillary, and a doctor type of ancillary (more for practical reasons - the most important ancillary bar none). For traits I was thinking "been in the wars", "military genius ", "intelligent", "lively", "tactical master", and maybe "hale and hearty" (or another trait from the tough line).

    Any other suggestions?

can you change a character's name or can you create a new character through a cheat?

the description_strat file in the campaign folder has information on the starting generals for each faction
so you could change a name and the charictors traits from there
"I, Pinkie Pie, declare that these treats are fit for a king, or a queen, or a princess!"
"Me? Ruin? I'm not the ruiner, I'm the ruinee! Or is it ruinness? Ruinette?"
"She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
"Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"

Passing on to describe the way in which Napoleon employed ‘principles’ or ‘ingredients’ for the prosecution of War, it must from the outset be understood that his strategical and tactical systems followed no closely ruled pattern. Every operation was unique; no two were ever quite the same. However, the underlying every Campaign and battle were certain fundamental, which were applied according to circumstances.

A Good one would be give_trait Hannibal GoodCommander 5 that gives the character +5Command star. Then
give_trait Hannibal GoodAttacker 5, so +5 Command stars when attacking
give_trait Hannibal GoodDefender 5, and + 5 Command Stars when defending.
    Always 10 Star General.

give_trait Hannibal Brave 5 , adds +2 Morale to all soldiers on the battlefield.
    give_trait Hannibal Feck 5, adds +6 Morale.
give_trait Hannibal Girls 1, adds +2 Morale but anything over that goes negative.

If you want you could add
give_trait Hannibal TacticalSkill 3, which adds +3 to your line of Sight.
give_trait Hannibal LogisticalSkill 3, which is both +3 Morale and +4 Movement. Which im sure will come in Handy marching over the alps and avoiding Roman stacks.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I just created a Hannibal using the above traits and marched on Rome, defeating every army Rome could send against em but still losing the war, i actually tried to Cannae at Cannae, but due to a lack of a tactical withdraw, my center collapsed, luckily i threw in some reserves and still won the battle. I have been using an Hammer and Anvil tactic that has seemed to work great so far, I have
1 General, 4 Sacred Band Cavalry, 2 Armored War Elephants, 10 Heavy Scutarii, and 3 Numidian Horse Archers.
I have been arraying ym 10 Scutarii in a single, or double depends on the situation, line. Just behind them I place the General, and the 2 Armored War Elephants. off to the right flank, but still behind the scutarii, are the 4 Cavalry units. After the battle commences, I shift the Cavalry around the LEft flank of the Romasn, and attack their ungarded rear. At the same time, I charge the Armored War Elephants through the Roman front, while my General hacks away beside them. The Romans usually rout now so the 8 Cavalry units can now begin the massacre.

Hey, their Sacred Band could beat Imbakaro any day of the week. With Heavy Infantry, Heavy Cavalry and Elephants, if you cant win as Carthage its the fault of your tactics, not the faction.

Pretty much every faction is beastly in its own peculiar way, The Greeks may have great Hoplite, but their wannabe Cavalry blows keels over in a strong wind. The Parthians may have incredible Horse archers, just cutem off and surround them and they'll fall faster than the Roman Legion at Cannae. Moral of the story is every faction is a deadly killing machine in the hanmds of an experienced player, I bet if you had DomeBagHo play as the Gauls against some noob playing Romans or Macedonians, DBH would own.

i agree with the crazy person above me
it all depends on what type of units you prefer and what strategy you prefer to use
i personally go with a lot of heavy infantry

"Me?

I am playing Carthage precisely because they are not good and I want something different. I am using only mercenary troops. I want a challenge. Rome/Greece/Barbarians have better infantry. Eastern factions have better cavalry. Everyone has better missile troops (not counting Balearics). The only faction with equally bad native soldiers is the Ptolemies. I chose them because I want a challenge. It is pretty cool to field an inferior army and still beat your opponent.
