    Default Formal Debate

Here is a second topic about what I suggested before, but it is different. It will be a formal debate with the following rules:
    1. Two teams will be formed from each debate, both teams will have two members.
    2. During the debate, each team will make 3 speech posts, after each speech post the other team may have a rebuttal.
    3. Only members of the teams will be able to post in the thread during a debate. (this will need a mod's help)
    4. After the debate a poll will be open, and everyone will vote on the winner, please vote on who made the best debate, not who you agree with.
    5. Any flaming will result in the immediate ending of the debate, with the team that flamed immediately losing.

The first debate: Communism: Is it feasable in real life, or does it only work in theory?

Anyone interested please post. If you have a better idea for the first debate, post it and we will see which one is more popular.

I would like to participate in this. I think that larger teams of maybe 8-10 people should be formed, and then there would be more than one debate. For example, we have the liberal team and conservative team. Then there are 3 debates, the death penalty, war in iraq, abortion. (i think we can make better choices for the actual ones though)

Each team can assign say 3 or 4 people to each debate, and then we follow your rules, or some variation of them for the debates.

Alright, that would work, if we get enough people interested. A chance to debate something without any flaming would be a relief, and your idea would work.

Personally, abortion should be kept out. It is far, far too emotive a subject and is liable to collapse quickly. Also, given the nature of this subject, it really needs a good mix of women and men. Can't say why really, it's just the way I feel about this subject.

If people want to do it, why don't we make a list of each person who wants to participate, and what team they are on. If we do Atheist's idea, we should limit it to ten, if not then we'll decide the first debate, and then make the teams.

I would volunteer for the left wing or liberal team

And of course, the pledge really should be a topic, IMO.

I can go conservative, moderate or liberal; whichever has a dearth of followers.

We'll make teams, then both sides will agree upon topics. I'll join the conservative team.

Though I think we should choose topics that we can't normaly discuss because they would turn into flame fests.

I'll guess I will be in the "Either" category.

Hmm...it's really better to have people who are passionately to one side, or at least feel strongly about certain issues.

Anyways, I'm goint to start a thread for the liberal team to go, so we can get this off to more of a start.

It may be good to have one or two people on each team less passionate, that way they can help keep the fires down, and also look at the situation more logically.

what team should I be on?
Sure I've been called a xenophobe, but the truth is Im not. I honestly feel that America is the best country and all other countries aren't as good. That used to be called patriotism.

Unless I'm horribly mistaken in remembering your mudpit posts...I think it's pretty obvious which team you're meant for

Whichever one you support, unless you enjoy being a Devil's Advocate.
