Default Recruit Governor Generals or not ?

    Hi Guys

Another question on General's and this one is whether its worth recruiting a Governor General in a city or a General instead during a campaign or should you simply wait for new family members and ship them out as and when needed. What benefit's other than initially having a heavy cavalry unit does the General have over the Governor General ?

    Cheers

I think governors are simply meant to stay in a province rather than lead an army which is why governors have infantry bodyguards ,and i'm not sure but they likely get more management and influence traits than a general will get. 9/10 they can stabilise low public order in almost any province. It's also easier to get a good governor with good traits than a family member in my experience

    Hmm..its up to you.

and all General/Goverment/member with good miltary Trait user to battle and kick all emeny out
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

None whatsoever in RS 1.6 other than the fact they have a cavalry bodyguard. But if they're governing a city, then a heavy infantry bodyguard is more beneficial than a cavalry bodyguard if your settlement is attacked. I like to use my family members as governors of "Senatorial" provinces ie Italy, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica, Greece, Macedonia, Africa (Carthage), Crete, Cyprus, Bythinia and Rhodes. The rest of my family members i use as generals of Legions and use governors in all my other settlements.

Thanks for the replies... I've been campaigning as the Seleucid's (VH/VH) and in the western provinces of Asia minor I've had to recruit a quiet a few generals (in my case I went for Governor Generals) as there simply hasn't been enough new family members to carry on without leaving the cities to self manage. Several of them have ended up having to campaign against the Armenian's and the lack of heavy cavalry has been a wee bit evident at times and thats what made me wonder if there was any reason for recruiting a Governor General over a straight General.

If a Governor General/General has been successful can he then be recruited as a family member and his off spring then carry on or is that simply not possible ??

    Cheers

Governor generals/generals work like captains in the way they can be adopted. Then they become normal family members, so you lose the infantry bodyguard iirc.

And governors have a higher upkeep cost.

Question: How many government types will be in RSII?
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Will there be four government types like in EB or only one?

For example in EB while playing as Epirus you had the posibility to chose between the fallowing government types: homeland, military controlled settlement, barbarian controlled settlement and allied settlement. In an allied settlement you had the option to recruit a governor that received no penalties governing the client state but received penalties if he left the respective province or governed a different type of settlement. He was a dummy governor and received a lot of influence, to prevent large allied settlements from rioting! They also introduced the notion of appartenance to tribes that gave certain inborn abilities to family members. Epirotes were best at governing homelands and military controlled settlements, barbarians (Illyrians, Thracians, Celts etc.) were very good generals and it was best if they governed barbarian controlled settlements and so on. In allied settlements you could recruit only local troops instead of faction troops and was not able to build important economical buildings, in barbarian controlled settlement you could recruit only a part of the faction troops and local troops and in homelands all the specific faction units! There were many other interesting stuff as well! It was a very complex system. Will RSII have more than one government types?

Maybe this is meant to represent the governor's staff (clerks, scribes etc.), which are not seen on the battle map. So you pay for those staff members as well.
