    @crazyajvar
    those are deli units (delije), a bit unrealistic drawn, but still represents the way they dresses. they were ottoman units, while serbian hussars looked like this:

    Can't see pics. You are most likely right but similarity to polish husaria cavalry is striking don't you think? Any how some delis were serbs (if not most of them) but since they were part of Ottoman army it's logical to see them that way.

    Lol, you seriously rely on sticker album drawn by some comic book artist for your research?

    Because when you are finished with reading this book you will never again say that "Serbs and Croats" were the only slavic tribes which invaded the balkans. John Fine is showing sources from the Franks which are testifieng about the arrival of Slavs in the balkans and about the crossings of the Sava river by "slavic tribes" more than 100 years before the first time serbs or croats have been mentioned mentioned in history. So I really hope you will read this book and I hope you will learn something from it and be more carefull when saying in the future things like:"Serbs and Croats were the only slavic tribes which invaded the balkans..."
    I don't know who claims that Serbs and Croats are only Slavic tribes that invaded Balkan, they only invaded central and western Balkan while other tribes settled in present day Bulgaria, Macedonia and northern Greece ( and Slovenia if we count that as Balkan ). The migration of Serbs and Croats is dated in early 7th century according to DAI during the reign of emperor Heraclius ( 610-641) while the first collonization of Slavs in Balkan is dated in 584. so there are no Slavic tribes living in Balkan 100 years before the Serbs and Croats, as we see the time span between first Slavic settlement in Balkan and Serbo-Crpoatian migration ( 584. and 610. ) is 25 years and it tends to be 0 years because the year of 584. given by John of Ephesus refers to the settlement of Slavs in the eastern part of peninsula: Thrace, Helas and Thessaly which were invaded by the Slavs from lower Danube in present day Romania. Ther was also smaller settlements of Slavic federates in eastern Balkan along the Danube prior to 584, again not in the area of the Serbo-Croat setllement. For the western and central part of Balkan the referal time points of Slavic settlement are 597. when Avars and Slavs raided province of Dalmatia and destroyed many defensive fortifications opening the road for settlement, then the 600. when the Byzantine defence in danube and Sava collapsed after unsecessful campaign of emperor Maurice, and the destruction of Salona ( Split ) in 614. which marks the arival of the Slavic wave to the sea. So the Slavic infilatration in the central and western parts of peninsula occured between 597. and 614, which is time frame of the Serbo-Croat migration given in teh DAI. There were no Slavic settlemet in the areas of Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia and Montenegro 100 years before the arival of the Serbs and Croats, at best there could be one previous wave of settlement 20 or 25 years before the Serbo-Croatian migration. But as we see the conquering of the western Balkan was long process, we have Avars and Slavs invading province of Dalmatia ( covering most of Croatia, Bosnia and western Serbia ) in 597, then we have the destruction of Salona in 614. and suposed arival of Serbs and Croats between 610. and 641.
    Also can you find the page where the Fine quotes Frankish anales, I can't seem to locate it.

    Only pepper paste? I thought it's a mix of tomato and pepper (though a bit more pepper than the lyutenitsa, of course).
